Current mood:inspired
another one of many snippets i've been working on -- basically just me jamming and building a few totally unspectacular chunks of ideas, so i can throw them around, tare them apart, destroy them, and put them back together again to form something new.

at least, that's the idea...

i'm just trying to break some rules here. i'm fully aware that, if anyone ever listens to this, they will think these little pieces of music suck. they sound bad, and they are not original. they do show how i feel about music, though:::

up until a few years ago, i tried to make my recordings sound as clear and perfect as possible. i always wanted to bring more interesting and (what some call) more "complicated" or complex music to a broader audience. so -- my approach was; write a pop song that sounds like a madonna track but with a 7/8 beat. or 5/4. or both. i tried to make less boring music more accessable.

that was fun and challenging (and inspiring) for some time, and i learned a lot, but i feel like i can't do this anymore. everytime i record a song;; before i'm halfway finished, i already hate it. i hate it for sounding like every other song on the radio, i hate it for having 1980s or 1990s sound, i hate it.

so i decided to leave the past behind, and forget about the rules and limits i set for myself. what i'm doing now is --- i record whatever comes to my mind. i don't try to make things sound the way i think it will make others think it sounds original or great or whatever. i simply capture my feelings and moods, and once i end up with a bunch of different snapshots of these moments, i will tare out pieces of them and make a collage of stuff ;; and then i will see what that whole thing will look like and sound like.

i'm really excited about this, and i will upload new bits and pieces every once in a while as a way of sharing the process. i'm hoping to end up with a new song every couple of weeks or months or so.
