Hey Kreeps! Here's my (late as usual) blog about the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors Convention held at the Burbank Airport Convention Center, Friday May 18th- Sunday the 20th. This one was historic for your B'Czar. For the first time I was on a panel to promote one of my projects. Friday at 2 p.m. they held a panel for my vampire film, 'ReVamped'. Yours truly was invited (thanks Jeff) to announce that the sequel, 'ReVamped 2' is done (at least the first draft). Jeff Rector (also the star/ producer/director) was going to read it on the way to Cannes (how Hollywood is that?).
The panel was a thrill for me because I've gone to this convention for years and, along with my buddies (more on them to come), we would sit in the audience yearning to be up on the stage promoting our films. Well, a step has begun the journey: not only was I on the panel, along with actors Jeff, Blacksploitation Legend Fred 'the Hammer' Williamson, Martin Kove ('Karate Kid'), Reggie Bannister ('Phantasim'), and the lovely Christa Campbell ('2001 Maniacts') and Alana Curry ('Terminator 2'), but my friends at Unhinged Cinema (John Gonzalez, Slava Siderman) premiered their short, 'Roadside Killer' in the Film Program Saturday nite ('way to go, Guys and Jason'!).
Increasingly I've found that I hardly have any time to attend panels since I'm on the move, networking and running around like a chicken with no head. It's great and now I have some potential projects in the works.
But, I'm sitll a Fan. No doubt a highlight was seeing Clive Barker again (I met him last year when he got a Lifetime Achievement Award at a horror film festival). He remembered me (I accousted him about my 'Crow vs. Pinhead' project) and complimented me on my 'look', mentioning he might put me in one of his paintings! We'll have to wait and see about that, but he's such a gracious genius.
I had an awesome time hanging out with the High Pirestess of Horror and her Minions, reconnecting with Old Friends (Spudic, Martell, Dead by Day) and making New Friends (like my neighbor ErgoGal). The convention is slated to move downtown to the Convention Center next year to accomoidate its growth and popularity. If I want to be on a panel with another project, I better get writing. 'Go hardcore or go home'...
