Current mood:  awake
It's 4am in Tokyo and I'm wide awake. Traveling is amazing, but jet lag stinks. Tried counting sheep, drinking warm chamomile tea, and listening to soothing spa-style music… But I'm still just staring at the ceiling. Anyone got any good tips?
Thinking of going for a run on the elliptical, a la "Lost in Translation".
Thought I'd post some pics as I'm up. Here I am on the plane yesterday, rockin' some curls au natural and doing the crossword puzzle. It's amazing I can even see through the maze of curls.

My buddy Justin Chatwin took these. That's my stuffed polar bear Huggy, he's 22 years old so don't hate on him for missing some fur on his tummy. ☺ Here he is enjoying the good life. And, in case you're wondering, yes, I told him he had to turn off all electronic devices before take off.

Lots of love and good sleep

xx emmy

And I agree with Marie's comment...I absolutely love to read, but usually if I read straight for more than like two hours, I start getting really drowsy, even if it's the middle of the afternoon! *lol*

I would try reading something you've read a thousand times before. When I'm traveling and cant sleep, that always does the trick. It's like being back home and my mind relaxes.

Love those curls, girl- wish my hair was curly instead of straight (learned a neat trick with a flat iron the other day though, so I'm itching to try it out). Hmmm.. yeah, I agree with the others- try reading something, like a big novel or something, that usually works for me. I don't usually go to bed until late, because by then, my mind is ready to turn off, but the time zone probably has your body clock all messed up, so I hope you're there long enough to get it straight;-). Looking forward to hearing about your movie project. And your new CD. *Hugs!

Hey Emmy,

I just love your curly hair! Thanks so much for the photos and the update. As far as tips go, I have traveled internationally but I haven't had the chance to try this one but I knew someone who went back and forth often from Australia to the US. She said that you have to get on the time zone you are going to as soon as possible, even before you leave. That really cuts down on the time lag and body clock changes and drink lots of water because the air in planes is so dry it will dehydrate you.

Oh and this may be a little delayed, but I just saw your performance from last xmas at the Grove. You looked great in the red dress and the song was wonderful. So, as the song goes...Have yourself a merry little christmas!

Have a fun trip,
Steve

Hey Em! Having some trouble sleeping huh, well, one thing you might wanna try, think of being back in class and having a teacher that talks in nothing but monotone voice and it's the first class of the day. If that doesn't put you to sleep then, well, don't know what to tell ya, lol. Hope you are doing great! Talk to you soon!

You should give those Bath and Body works aromatherapy sleep lotions and whatnot a try! My cousin says they help her sleep. I'm yet to try them, though. And you're in Tokyo - JEALOUS! Haha, I want to visit there and travel all over the country of Japan, to see the different parts. Enjoy your trip. :]

Emmy,

As usual, you look cute. It's nocie to see oyu in curls again, since lately your hair has either been straight or tied behind you. I hope Huggy had a good flight. I also hope you got some sleep. Thanks for posting more blogs. I and so many other fans really enjoy hearing from you. Don't let detractors get you down. Well, have fun in Japan and have a safe trip home.

Hope you got some sleep! I always take melatonin if I am having trouble sleeping or because of jet lag. You can get it at any pharmacy. It doesn't leave you super drowsy like Tylenol PM does or something. Melatonin is a naturally occuring hormone in humans that has a theraputic potential and is also a great antioxidant! Good luck on your sleep woes, I always have problems when I travel! Your Christmas music has really gotten me into the season and I listen to it everyday! Merry Christmas and happy trails!!!

I'd keep an eye on your bear...it could be slipping into alcoholism. haha.

As for sleep, I find just closing your eyes for a while can make you drift off to sleep. The other option (which my Papa used to use when he was going overseas) is a sleeping pill. 8-12 hours of uninterrupted nap time.

In an aerobics class that i took a few years ago the instructor would have us imagine relaxing places like the beach. Then you concentrate on relaxing each limb/muscle one at a time. We would also listen to soothing music. This always made us tired and we would have fallen asleep if she didn't turn on the lights in the end! lol :)

otherwise, my mom always gave me a glass of milk.

hope you sleep soon! i cannot stand wanting to sleep and not being able to!

Best way i find to sleep beautiful, is to close me eyes, take a deep breath, let it out and then breath slowly. Let yourself listen to the sound, after a bit it'll relax you to sleep. And having Huggy around might help. Take good care of yourself sweetie. I'm heading to NY tomorrow, so i'll keep it in one piece till you get back. Enjoy your trip!
