Q: What's in a name? What does Cerebral Roil mean to you?

A: Well, the brain is very interesting to me. Cerebral Roil is just a fancy way of saying mental turbulence, which I project out during recordings and live shows.

Q. What kind of gear do you use?

A: I've just about cut using a computer out of my recording except for the actual recording part. Gunt (my old project) was mostly computer based, I have moved towards pedals and gear a lot more recently. I use a lot of feedback loops and plain old organic microphone feedback. Some of my favorite pieces of gear include my boss eq, 4ms swash, Boss Bass synth, Kaos Pad Mini, Devi Ever BIT, Frostwave Blue Ringer, DOD death metal, Metasonix Scrotum Smasher, Sirkut Gnarler, DOD Metal X, Audible Diesease convulsion, and the Digitech synth wah.

Q. What inspires you?

A. Live performers who add something extra like The Haters or Hanatarash always impress me. When it comes to listening I prefer more complex dynamic stuff like Xome or Merzbow but I can't get enough of guys like GX or even Cock ESP. Like GX, I also see professinal wrestling as a form of absurdist performance art and draw from that. I see avant garde/surrealist/Dada artists as people who did the same thing on canvas that I do to ears. Rock and roll singers who add something extra into the show like Jeff Clayton of Antiseen and GG Allin can't be left out either. Octopuses, squid, cuttlefish, wolves, vultures, snakes, and sharks. Entropy, rust, decay, mold, fungus, and so on. Horror movies. True crime, tributes to the extremes of the human mind. The writings of HP Lovecraft. History. All sorts of stuff.
