Current mood:  blessed
Category: Blogging
Blogging is fast becoming one of the loves of my life.  I like digging up the information I  hope will be useful to others.  And I like no less getting information from others.  I'm also beginning to blog on http://www.blogger.com/francinecraft.   Google's handy venue for blogging.  If you have the time and the inclination, you can get quite an education there.  And best of all it's free.

I'm beginning to hear from many sources that blogging is an excellent and free way to get your book before your potential readers.  Many authors put in a chapter a day for a while, or for the length of a short book.  More others excerpt their books on their blogs.  Many ask for comments and later incorporate those comments.  I say free, but there are many blog spaces for hire.  However, I'm doubtful they would be any better than Google or other free spaces.

There are many tips that will help you to become a more effective blogger.  Tune in to google with a specific help wanted request.  I think you really owe it to yourself to become very familiar with this terrific sales aid.  Whatever you do, Please don't wait for the world to beat a path to your door. Nowadays it won't -- unless you can give a surefire way to earn $100 a day with little effort.

For the past two weeks I've blogged about market and editorial analysis.  And zero response.  Authors, these two things are incredibly important, and what little money you spend on them will pay you rich dividends.  It can very well mean the difference between success and failure.

Don't cheat yourself.  Any book you've written is your precious creation.  So many of the letters you've written lead me to believe you're very, very talented.  Now, get on the ball and be as street smart in marketing as you are in writing.

Love and blessings,

Francine

I would think that blogging is very therapeutic and keeps you on your toes.  I have not gotten into that venue because there are so many other hands on things that keep me busy.  I love your blogging so keep it up.

I have a blog started but it's mostly just me rambling on.  You're right...again..  I should try to incorporate my book somehow into my blog to add another weapon in my marketing arsenal.

Thanks.

Saigon - all blogs are just "me rambling on."  Whatever you do, don't sell yourself short.  You'll fumble and stumble at first, but get out there and pitch.  You'll find many people with you, and they'll be just that much more interested in your book.

Best - Francine

Blogging is the best way to get the public reading an author's writing. It's an author's calling card, a place to present their writing samples to readers.

In addition to posting sample chapters of their fiction books, It's also an opportunity for a writer to show that they can write articles and non-fiction as well. Depending on the writer, a blog can be a place that effectively advertises better than any ad; some blogs get more foot traffic than newspapers, magazines and TV combined!

Also, a blog is a great place for an author to advertise  events like booksignings, and other promotional opportunities. In some cases, this is the only way the public knows about where to go and how to get there for things like book fairs and booksignings.

I use both my blogs (shameless plug here) on myspace and shawnsjames.blogspot.com to promote my books and write about writing. At the minimum there should be pictures of the book cover, links to the book at an online retailer like  amazon.com along with three sample chapters  of each title to whet the reader's appetite.

A blog, is the best advertising an author can have. It's free webspace where an author can express their ideas and sell their writing. Don't take it for granted!

Ah Shawn, this is the comment I waited to see go on.  It has taken several days, but is so helpful it was worth waiting for.  You're so full of ideas, and I hope you're using each and every one for your success.

Best,

Francine

Francine:
Always glad to help. Also glad to share what I've learned with others so they can apply that knowledge to their endeavors.
