So your new book is out and your feet are barely on the ground.  Hopefully, you long ago began marketing your book. Talking it up to everyone you know, blogging daily-even short blogs help.  And, if you just don't  have the time, and even if you do, refer your readers to another good blog you've enjoyed.

Now, you've contacted all the independent bookstores you can manage, and you've contacted every library you can manage.  Are you thinking about book clubs?  Hey, they've really proliferated in the past five years, and they're eager to get new, readable books for their meetings. If you can, get the name of the president or leader of the club and call or write.

You don't want it all to be about you, because it isn't. Find out what their book club is about, what has interested them.  And what are they likely to be interested in in the future?  Be personable, but do more listening than talking.  Trust me, you'll come out ahead that way.

Offer either some free books or a discount on soandso many.  And don't be stingy.  You want name recognition, because that's the way you sell book.  Remember, it's generally held that a person hears the name of an author or a book seven to eight times before they decide to buy.

Cultivate all the book clubs you can, and that means cultivating the people in those clubs.  Night clubs are not the only places to have fun. You wouldn't believe how much enjoyment you can get from clubbing and book clubs!

Love and blessings,

Francine

One of the best ways to get publicity and promotion for a book is book clubs, especially if they are in the target audience for a book.

Research is very important. Find out what the readers are reading before sending off an e-mail.

It pays to be generous in handing out books to clubs; long-term it's going to pay off. The Word of mouth and feedback from reviews will be extremely helpful in the future towards the promotion of a book. For my last novel I bought 40 books and gave away close to 33 of them; 15 went to book clubs and over 15 were given to vendors and bookstores.

In cultivating a list of all those book clubs A simple one page E-mail similar to a query letter introducing yourself and your book is very effective in getting responses. For The Cassandra Cookbook I e-mailed close to 200 Book clubs.

MySpace is also good for this kind of outreach; many book clubs and writers use the site to network and build contacts. I've made several contacts here and submitted books to clubs.

Also, keep in touch with book clubs after the initial request. If they read and review your book, send them a thank-you note. If they have a MySpace, Facebook or LinkedIN page, stop by to say hi, or show them some love. Let them know about the next book project. Keep the lines of communication open.

Shawn - this is perfectly wonderful, and oh, so helpful.  Where did you get the list of book clubs?  I'd be interested and thank you.

Best,

Francine

Bless your hearts.  In so many ways, Dying On The Edge has been a blessing.  In getting it together, I've seen things I've never seen before, felt things I've never felt before, and am closer to being well than I've ever been.  It's about Voodoo, and this is like magic, although it's really God at His finest.

Best,

Francine
