Legalize it.

Treat addiction as a disease.

Treat disease as a public problem -- nationalize health care.

To solve drunk driving, put trains, buses, and trolleys everywhere, and have them running when the bars close. You can't lose your license walking.

I don't know what you meant by Swiftian, RSW. I wasn't writing from the standpoint of a fictional, gullible observer of fictional societies that are grotesque mirrors of our own, and I wasn't writing satire.

Do we agree that the war on drugs is not doing what it's meant to, is doing bad stuff, and would be best ended? Or are there unexamined false premises underlying that question?

Or were your remarks directed at my thoughts about public transportation, because it gets back to the whole world of disagreement we share on the question of whether folks should live in cities?

It's simple enough. Manufactured goods require organized groups of people; cities, buses, trains, and single payor health care systems are the best way to care for organized groups of people.

So you're either a fool who doesn't see the extent to which you depend on everyone else, a liar who pretends it's not true to win arguments, or just a yahoo engaging in your natural form of discourse, because there are no pictures of hand-made weapons on your site.

One thing that ties us together is that we are part of the same massive, organized group of people who survive by cooperating. To the extent that I am able to influence the actions of the groups of which I am a member, I'm interested. It's my country, so I worry about it.

What makes you pretend to be better than me yet bother to read this blog and comment on it? Here on the internet, you could find people to agree with and admire.
