Issue 8 : Anxiety

Exhibition + Catalog Release: Saturday, August 29, 2009, 7-10PM
You can’t tune out talk of crisis, meltdown, bail out. Anxiety marks the current zeitgeist as we collectively hold our breath.  What does it look like to confront this anxiety or escape from it all together?  Anxiety, Cantanker magazine's third annual summer catalog and exhibition explores this theme. Juried by Austin Museum of Art's assistant curator Andrea Mellard, Anxiety brings together the work of 19 artists from Texas and beyond. Please join us Saturday, August 29 from 7-10 pm at Pump Project Art Complex  for the opening of the Anxiety exhibition and catalog release.

>  About Cantanker Magazine

Cantanker Magazine, is a non-profit 501(c)3 visual art publication that gives much-needed exposure to emerging and established artists through the unique design and smart, critical writing of its print magazine and its organization and promotion of art events in the Austin area. Cantanker is a spiky, artist-driven, non-award winning publication whose innovative design, artist’s projects, and editorial content provide a place for Austin’s creative community to connect with the public in a way that avoids the exclusionist art-speak of other visual art publications.
Cantanker is committed to producing a visual art magazine that is a piece of art in itself, beautifully designed and inventive in its concept and structure. Our mission is to encourage a dialogue about art through written profiles, interviews, reviews and opinion pieces, and to introduce artists to the public by giving them an open venue, Project Space, to create innovative and experimental work.

Why become a Cantanker sponsor? By supporting Cantanker you are supporting Austin artists, strengthening the local visual art scene, and enriching the vibrant creative culture that makes Austin unique. Our diverse readership includes artists, art professionals, designers and academics and is supported by institutions like AMOA and The Blanton.
