October 11-17,2009 is Homeless Awareness Week.
On October 16 I will be hosting a fundraiser, location to be determined, from 7:00 pm until 7:00 am the next morning.
You
will be asked to bring a Cardboard box to sleep in, no technology of
any kind will be allowed, including cell phones and MP3 players.
No
coolers or snacks either, you will be provided a hot meal served to you
by a soup kitchen. You will be allowed to bring 1 blanket per box, no
pillows or extra change of clothing. Just you and your blanket.
The
idea behind this is to make you see what it is like to walk in the
shoes of a homeless person for 12 hours, while raising money for local
soup kitchens.
There are more than 45,000 children that are
homeless in NY State alone. We need to make sure they are warm and food
in their belly each and every day.
Come out and support this cause.
*I
have been in contact with Mayor Matt Ryan to try and decide a location
this will take place, if you are interested please email me @ jessxmickelson@hotmail.com
Tell your friends and family to join us as well.
