Thanks to all who came out for the CD Release party. Thanks to Mike Murray and Merrick Section for the terrific sets they played at the beginning of the night, and of course thanks to Nicole and Chip and the other folks who were serving that evening. Thanks as well to Luke from WorcesterScene.com, who helped promote the event for us.
After a year of playing to a very mixed range of crowd sizes on Wednesday nights, to have the place so absolutely jam-packed for our CD Release Party was a wonderful--if sometimes slightly unnerving--experience. Lots of CDs moved out the door, and we hope lots of people came out because of the great CD review we got in the Worcester Telegram and Gazette on Thursday, June 11. I will give my highlights and lowlights of the evening in list form, and if any of the other guys want to add their highlights and lowlights please do so below. Lowlights first:
1) It was crowded! We played as a full five piece, and both sides of the bar were full of people, so we were a little jam-packed up there. If Ed poked me in the back with his guitar one more time, I was going to take away his beer. 2) It was hot! The lights and the bodies made for a hot stage, which was compounded by the fact that the accordion is a very physical instrument. So when I got into the accordion tunes, and was working up a sweat, I started to feel like I was going to faint. I worked through it for the sake of Rock and Roll.
Highlights:
1) The crowd was great and appreciative. People were listening, and watching, and really taking in the experience. That was awesome. 2) Special guests. Tim Pitney and Dr. Gonzo came up and helped us really turn up the energy in the second set. I love special guests. 3) The bass! I love playing with our new bass player, Jared Forgues, and can't wait until he brings his mandolin down some night. 4) Being at Nick's. Might be the coolest bar in the city, and it was wonderful to round out our first year at Nick's by having the release party there. 5) We had a good mix of originals and covers, and I enjoyed playing every one of them.
So that's it. Remember, whether or not you were at this historic event, you can catch us every Wednesday night down at Nick's from 8:00-11:00, doing our usual thing. We're heading back into the studio this fall, so expect the next CD Release party at the same time next year . . .
