It occurs to me that most, if not all of us, are here for a reason:

Some of us are here for Joe Anthony. Although most of us don't really know Joe A. on a personal level, we came to the site he created looking for ways to support Senator Barack Obama. In the short span of about two years, Senator Obama had inspired us in a way that few modern politicians have even attempted. In Obama we saw a man who spoke like a Kennedy, MLK Jr., Jefferson and Lincoln; he told us he had a dream that all men were created equal and that each of us should ask not what our country could do for us, but strive to see what we could do for it, and those around us. Many of us can credit Joe Anthony for raising our awareness about Senator Obama and invigorating our interest by providing an independent community where we could collaborate and support the senator.

We are mostly ordinary folks, people who had more or less lost faith in the political system; we looked to Senator Obama for leadership toward a new system that truly represented the American people. Tens of thousands of us contributed to this man's campaign through the MySpace community that Joe Anthony created and maintained loyally for over two years.

Despite the accomplishments we made, Senator Obama's staff destroyed the community that we had bolstered with both our time and money. Unfortunately for Senator Obama, the resonating message is that his fine words were icing on the cake covering the same old top down machine. His staff has left many of us wondering if they were just milking us for our dollars, repaying our loyalty with scorn. As of yet, no official from the Obama camp has sent an adequate message that tells us otherwise.

Most of us are not comfortable contributing any further to this campaign unless there are some changes. To start, we would like to hear a sincere public apology to Joe Anthony as well as the rest of the Netroots community that have given so much. We would like any misleading statements that have been put out by campaign officials to be clarified; even slight implications of extortion are disgusting and insulting to members of this community. In Doing the Right Thing, the Obama campaign will have renewed our faith in his ability to empower the Grassroots and Netroots network that supported his campaign even before he entered the presidential race.

I am rarely able to give anything remotely near the federal limits to any candidate, but I have always tried to give a few dollars to those I believe in. To this end, I am offering a pledge to the Obama campaign to continue my contributions when he Does the Right Thing, and I am asking you to join me.

Maybe I am the only one that is willing to do this. Maybe this is a crazy notion. I think that it is time to let the Obama campaign know that we want a sincere and speedy resolution, and that we are willing to put our money where our mouths are. I am volunteering to be the John Hancock of our community:

I, Anthony Watkins, hereby pledge to donate $25.00 immediately when the campaign rights its wrong. I will donate an additional $25.00 each quarter as long as Obama is a candidate or nominee until the general election.

I may end up looking like a fool. I may be the only one willing to make this statement. But if I am not and you wish to join me in pledging frozen donations, please add a comment here that states your name and the amount you wish to donate when the campaign placates our concerns.

Thanks, Anthony Watkins

Anthony, I'll add my name to the list and as I was already giving the same amount of $25 per month until this happened, I'll do the same.

They already have my personal information on file and the letters to HQ expressing these same thoughts. I'll follow up with them again though just to make sure they still understand my feelings on the matter.

p.s. good idea even if it's just you and I pledging our money once this gets resolved.
This is the third month they'll not be receiving my donation.

Wonderful idea Anthony (Poet)!

I will also add my name to this, and pledge $15 dollars to the Obama campaign upon the resolution of righting the wrongs and the injustices! Please Senator Obama "do the right thing" and support your Grassroots and Netroots community as wholeheartedly as we support you!

When this is resolved I will also add to this donation, as much as my college student budget allows! :)

Standing up to be heard, waiting for Barack to "do the right thing"!

peace, hope, and light, jess

Jesse, I think a lot of us are beginning to look hard at other candidates. I am considering Richardson, but I am trying, with this blog, to turn the heat up a bit to see if there are enough interested parties that we can get the Obama camp's attetntion with the langauge ALL politicians speak, money.

If you believe in the things Obama SAYS he stands for, then please join us in this effort. Sometime before the summer is over, if they keep stonewalling, I expect nearly every one of our 1400 plus friends will either find knew political homes, or get so disallusioned they step back out of the political arena. Either way, Obama, and America suffer.

I can plegde $25 per quarter to the campaign if this mess is cleared up, but I am fairly confident I will be able to keep my money. As we have seen, Barack's campaign has continued to make silly yet disastrous mistakes and it shows a lack of leadership and experience in my opinion.

I think he just makes great speeches and that's all we can expect from him.

Anthony...i will match your contribution of 25 dollars! Afther they do the right thing. Its not much money but with 1400 friends i think we could donate on the behalf of our site not as individuals to prove a point! Imagine if Joe had the power to ask 140 000 friends for 25 dollars each quarter...

awww, you guys are making me all warm inside:)_

I agree Eugene, but I guess Joe Anthony isn't that kind of person, but I am! If just a hundred or so of our good friends join me, I think Obama will have to pay attention. We will see. I am excited that we already have several folks joining in, and the blog has been up less than 12 hours!

Hi Sunshine, actuially all campaigns tend to spend large amounts of money on paid workers in the early primary states, then a fortune on TV when the campaing goes national. It is hard to reach 100-200 million people by knocking on doors, though as a long time campaign volunteer for the Democratic Party, I tend to agree a well coordinated live person hand-to-hand, word of mouth campaign is a good supplement to those millions of dollars sucked into the TV machine, either way, it will take a half of a billion dollars to get elected president this cycle!!!!

If you want to help a candidate get elected, you can donate either time or money or both. Paid positions are ususally reserved for the big movers and shakers, the difference in this campaign is they took a huge organization, asked for a one time fee, then not only stiffed the guy, but accused him of extortion. It was not only a mean thing to do, but a pretty stupid move.

Well, I've been thinking about this for awhile. To be completely honest, I wasn't going to support it because I thought that our request for vindication should have been enough to elicit a response from the campaign.
However, if the campaign had cleared this up earlier, I would have continued my donations. In that light, I think it's only logical to pledge the $50 dollars I would have contributed in the interim. Unfortunately I'm not one to budget my money well, so I can't really determine what I will give in the future if we reach a resolution. I will say that I do have $50 ready for donation right now.
Further contribution is likely since my birthday is a month away ; )

Thanks to everyone who has decided to show how much this really means to them.

As I think I have stated here before, I made my first political contribution EVER to the Obama campaign before they took over the page. It was not much ($10) since I'm not very well off financially (living paycheck to paycheck). I like this idea so add me to the list. I, Debbie (do you need my last name?) will donate $10 when Barack Obama does the Right Thing.

miss deb is fine. we are all honorable people here. i have no doubt when and if the campaign does the honorable thing, we will all live up to our commitments.

so far, we have about $1200 dollars pledged in less than two days! At this rate, in a few days, we will be talking about enough money they will have to notice. If just being decent didn't appeal to them, maybe money will, if money doesn't move them, it is probably time for our 1400 plus friends to start considering other candidates. but first, i hope several hundred of our friends join us in this frozen pledge campaign!!!

thanks miss deb,

I will pledge $25 dollars as well when Barack Obama and his campaign staff sincerely "DO THE RIGHT THING". I am so disullusioned with Obama right now....I was so excited to begin with. Right now though he just seems like another slick politician....opportunist....who doesn't really care about the 'average citizen,' but don't they (politicians) all. I am seriously looking at other candidates (both Democrat and Republican). I've always been an Independent and vote for the person not the party.

Well it's nice to know that some people still have hope...
I don't know what I'm doing with my primary vote at this point.
If there's a lesson to be learned in any of this it's this: the only person really looking out for you is you. It's a nice thought, making a campaign that seems centered around the people... the reality that it's just fancy words isn't that shocking, though.
I've been checking out other candidates, too. I was giving Hillary a second look (don't throw things at me, guys), but apparently she's the second largest recipient of contributions from the healthcare industry... doesn't seem to bode well for the future of universal health care, does it...
I hope that before I die there will be a person in the Whitehouse that really does care what "we the people" think. :(

Thanks for joining us Kay! :) I totally understand how disillusioned you are right now, because I and many others are feeling the same way....though i don't think i could EVER bring myself to vote for a Republican because i feel it would be like shooting myself in the foot....it would just hurt too much! ha! Plus, i am very socially liberal and I need to vote for a candidate who is at least similar to the beliefs i hold, and someone who will not take freedoms away from people! (among other things)

On another note.....thank you to all of our friends who have stood up and pledged to contribute once Obama "does the right thing"!

peace, light, and hope, jess :)

Thanks for joining the club, Kay! As a die hard liberal partisan, I don't think I would EVER vote Republicn, but I understand the setiment. Good luck to all of us Nov. 2008. I will say there is not a Republicn running who is likely to screw this country as bad as W has.
