News Letter v52.0

05.03.09

Hello,
Spring is in full swing, The Gothsicles just finished the It Ain’t Dead Yet Tour, The Qualia, Trigger10d and The Thought Criminals are hard at work on new albums and we have another new addition to the roster. Without keeping you in suspense, here is the news for May…

WTII WELCOMES INDUSTRIAL LEGENDS DESSAU…
We are proud to announce the addition of the Dessau to the WTII roster. Below is a brief history and bio of Dessau

Dessau is the musical output mainly of one John Elliott. Mining a similar artistic vein as Nitzer Ebb and early Ministry, Dessau delivered powerful, rhythmic industrial dance tracks. Songs like Suffer, Sun 90, Unshakeable and of course, Isolation are well known amongst the scene's older aggro fans.

Elliott began his musical career in 1979 as drummer for Nashville punk rock outfit Cloverbottom. Elliott later experimented with electronic percussion as a member of Actuals (later known as Factual). After becoming fed up with the stagnant Nashville rock scene, Elliott moved to Chicago in the fall of 1981, joining Stations who worked with producer Martin Hannett (Joy Division, New Order). In Chicago he also gained valuable friendships with Ministry's Al Jourgensen & Steve Albini (Pixies / Nirvana). Returning to Nashville in 1983, Elliott formed Dessau and worked again with Martin Hannett on Dessau's first EP, Red Languages. Working with veteran Nashville rockers Skot Nelson (guitars), Mike Orr (bass) & Barry Nelson (bass), Dessau would release a series of dance-oriented 12 EPs through the latter half of the '80s, including Happy Mood in 1986. The 1988 Mad Hog EP featured a remix of the dance floor hit Unshakeable by Ministry's Al Jourgensen. Both Jourgensen and Paul Barker would contribute to the 1988 cover of Joy Division's Isolation which would become Dessau's dancefloor breakthrough. A full-length album, Exercise in Tension, would follow in 1989. Produced by Giles Reaves & John Elliott and including Isolation, the CD version included Beijing, Dessau's third hit dance track.

During the '90s, Elliott turned toward other projects which included Passafist, Rebecca St. James, Final Cut, Lick, Pyskosonik and writing the theme music for the Wax Trax! Black Box DVD with Chris Randall of Sister Machine Gun. Re-forming Dessau with guitarist Norm Rau, Elliott released the heavier, less dance-oriented Details Sketchy in 1995, collaborating with members of Ministry, Die Warzau, Pigface, and Filter. Mausoleum / BMG Records would later buy the rights to Dessau's back catalog; old friends Jourgensen and Barker revisiting and remixing Dessau songs like Beijing, Skeletons By Nature, and Isolation for the label's 1995 CD reissue Dessau. They have worked with a virtual whos-who of Industrial including Paul Barker and Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Jason McNinch (Lick), Van Christie / Jim Marcus (Die Warzau), Luc Van Acker (Revco), Richard Patrick (Filter) and many others.

In July, DESSAU will be releasing THE TRUTH HURTS on WTII Records. This retrospective release contains tracks from their first two vinyl only EPs, Red Languages and Happy Mood, unreleased Paul Barker / Al Jourgensen remixes, demos, out-takes and live tracks. This release will be the precursor to the first new DESSAU material in 15 years

The Truth Hurts is the first release in nearly 15 years from the legendary industrial outfit Dessau. The mastermind of one John Elliott, Dessau has been a major player in shaping the industrial music scene since inception back in 1983. The Truth Hurts is a 17 track retrospective release that contains originals, demos, out-takes and live tracks that span the bands history. Tracks like Red Languages, Crutch of Utility, Unshakeable, Imperial Hotel, and Europe Light are taken from the bands first two EP’s Red Languages and Happy Mood. Both EP’s were previously released on vinyl only and this is the first time the original versions have been available on CD. The Truth Hurts also features guest appearances from Paul Barker on the tracks Trevethan, Rest My Eyes and Seldom Traveled and guitar work from Richard Patrick on Suffer 16. WTII049 MONSTRUM SEPSIS ARTIFACTS OUT NOW!
Monstrum Sepsis’ latest release, Artifacts, is an eclectic mix of tribal drums, organic electronics and intoxicating synths. Unlike most bands within the genre, Monstrum Sepsis places a heavy emphasis on melody and structure. This signature Monstrum Sepsis sound is evident from the opening bars of Smoke ‘em, to the powerful undertones in Glimpse and then carries through to the harmonious Wit’s End Persistence. In addition to the sonic soundscapes, Artifacts spices things up with some politically charged samples that reflect the current world moods and trends. These political affairs are exposed in the thought provoking and intelligent tracks Opus Dictum, Squelch and War of Ideas. The new Monstrum Sepsis will not disappoint and will appeal to fans of IDM and power noise.

WTII051 THE THOUGHT CRIMINALS     DIE YOUNG: STAY PRETTY OUT NOW!
Die Young: Stay Pretty, is the debut release from the South London Duo, The Thought Criminals. Their sound can only be described as an EBM laced Sci-fi / 80’s / Electro Punk montage. Programmer/Musician Kirlian Blue, supplies the backdrop for frontman Rocky Goode’s tongue & cheek vocals. Die Young: Stay Pretty, is a 10 track album which contains 3 bona fide singles: The catchy pop hit (I’m Gonna Be a) Celebrity, the old school EBM Date Rape Lovers and the explosive My Baby’s a Suicide Bomber. In addition to the album tracks, Die Young: Stay Pretty, includes seven bonus remixes that will be sure to pack dance floors across the globe.

WTII052 THE GOTHSICLES    SEGA LUGOSIS DEAD     OUT NOW!
After the surprise hit of their debut, NESferatu, the duo of darkNES and :EYG: are back with even more EBM inspired carnage and their latest offering, Sega Lugosi’s Dead.

Inspired by everything from Dig-Dug to, well, balls (or rather "BALLLLLLLS!!!"), The Gothsicles leave no stupid stone unturned. Sega Lugosi’s Dead combines their signature infectious bouncy hooks, offbeat sense of humor and love of all things geek, producing an album that surpasses their first. Sega Lugosi’s Dead features guest appearances from Prometheus Burning, Cyanotic, The Dark Clan and unwittingly, Caustic. In addition to the album tracks, Sega Lugosi’s Dead contains remixes from Alter der Ruine, System Syn, Iszoloscope, Boole, and DEFCON!
