Current mood:  happy

"Happiness doesn't exist on the far side of distant mountains. It is within you, yourself. Not you, however, sitting in idle passivity. It is to be found in the vibrant dynamism of your own life as you struggle to challenge and overcome one obstacle after another, as you clamber up a perilous ridge in pursuit of that which lies beyond."   ~Daisaku Ikeda

Wow this just strikes me as a perfect concept. Happiness is not in the absence of struggle, it's in the midst of struggles.

I hear ALL THE TIME from people... I tell them I am HAPPY, like REALLY happy. What do I hear back? "If I were you'd I'd be happy too. You have a great life, and everything is easy for you." Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahah hahahahahahahaha  riiiiiiiight.  If you want to share struggles, we can, but to be honest its all in how you see those struggles. You will not find me sitting, going on and on with someone about all the things that are challenging right now in my life. Why? I will however sit with you and go on and on about all the wonderful things going on in my life. Why not?

I love the way Ikeda takes it to such an extreme level. It's not being 'just ok' when things are hard, its finding inner happiness when you are facing situations, one obstacle after another up a perilous ridge... He's making it so clear that Happiness is NOW! Not after you make it there and get to see what's beyond, not after you are past the struggles but right NOW, DURING these struggles in our lives.

A Course In Miracles has numerous lines pertaining to this as well, but one that sticks out to me right now is clearly "Seek not to change the world, but to change your mind about the world"

Abraham channeled by Esther and Jerry Hicks has said numerous times "It is our promise to you that you cannot have a happy ending to an unhappy journey, it cannot be."

I think accepting this concept is exactly what made me so happy. My happiness is NOW. It doesn't depend on what is happening on the outside, because it comes from the INSIDE. If you ever catch yourself feeling like "I'll be happy when..." try to bring yourself back to the present moment. Try to remember that right now, in the one second, everything is exactly as it is supposed to be. Know that the Universe is unfolding in perfect harmony with your life and that nothing can ever be anything other than perfect. Accept life as it is now, and find your inner peace.

What are we seeking, things, or feelings? It goes like this:

"If I had more money then I'd be happy"

    - Ok well why would money make you happy?

"Money would make me happy because I wouldn't have to worry about paying my bills and I could feel safe and secure."

    - First off there's a myth in that thinking... A myth that says you NEED to worry about anything... as if worrying will make it go away. Worrying will only make it deeper rooted in your mental reality. And secondly, if you felt safe and secure you'd be happy? Great, then feel safe and secure now. That's a feeling that comes from the inside, and YOU are the only one that has control over how you feel? Right? I mean feelings come from the INSIDE of you, not the outside.

I think if we can learn to go deeply into our thoughts and really question the logic that runs our lives, we can get to a place where happiness just feels natural and easy. The only thing that needs to change for this to take place, is the way you view your world and the thoughts you decide to believe.

That being said, I'd like to get some coffee now. I love you guys!!!

I am a whisper in the Dark

whoa hun very deep ....my take on happiness is that at the end of the day i have done the best i can in whatever i have done for the day a peice found thru knowing that effort was given and not half hearted if you try and apply your best effort in whatever you do regardless of outcome then you should know happiness from within for merely trying and not giving up ...ooooo coffee sounds good too ..to the office it is love to you hun have a great day

That is a really good post. You exude happiness and have in the entire time I have been reading your writings. Well before getting in the great relationship you are in. Well before getting your site launched. Or any of the other things someone can say as reasons you are happy today. It is one of the main reasons I like you and have been staying in touch with you. I don't find many that get how easy happiness can be in one's life and I appreciate being witness to another living it.

I wrote a blog about "peace of mind", where I discussed how to achieve it. It was pretty much the same as you discuss. It is something to choose and it is something to choose right now. I did inform people of the reality that once you choose it, you must be patient for it to become your daily reality. It is something you have to practice and think about daily. It does not just happen on it's own. It does not happen overnight. It seems to me many don't have the patience to do what it takes to achieve it internally.

You are a blessed soul and I appreciate you, even when we disagree on a topic.

Have a great day,
Drew

i agree with you on alot of this. People align happiness with external objects such as money and possesions but the fact that a person aligns these things with happiness i think is a signs of their emptiness and lack of enlightenment. I know that you are a buddhist and i agree with the buddhist teaching that all sorrow is rooted in desire, After all anything we strive for when we get it we are happy for awhile but then we disgard it and start striving for something else and it becomes an endless cycle. Technically happiness is the result of large amounts of dopamine and serontonin in the brain but i find it didtressing to limit all human action as limited to the workings of a machine like brain as is taught in epiphenomialism don't you?. I think happiness comes from love and contentment, sounds simplistic i know but it is a question of finding out the true nature of those things and how we relate them to ourselves, the way that most people associate these things seem to be pretty confused. Happiness comes from within i agree with that, it rings true to me.
I enjoyed this blog you're a beautiful girl with a beautiful mind! take care:)

Thank you, I love your insight. I agree with you in some sense. Its feeling that love and feeling that contentment in EACH MOMENT of our lives. Thats happiness.

I do also think that you can work towards things. My honest belief is that it is not the desire per say that makes us suffer, it is the attachment to the outcome of that desire. My feeling is happiness comes more easily when you surrender the idea that you even know what makes you happy, nor do you know the best way for things to unfold. Its saying, this would be rad, I'd love that but if the Universe has something better for me, so be it. I trust that everything unfolds exactly as it should and as A Course In Miracles says "I do not perceive my own best interests." Imagine if you got everything you ever wanted? Your life would be a mess ;)

Wonderful blog. I've always believed that "happiness" is a decision you make not something that happens to you accidentally because of circumstance. You can always decide to be happy.....you can't always decide to have wonderful circumstance.
