Ask a Pro! 5: Tim Bradstreet

Tim's art came along at a time when my interest in comics & art were on life support. I was unsure of their place in my world...I was too busy deciding if I wanted a job or a graduate degree. Luckily, I stumbled across Tim's cover to DC's "Unknown Soldier". It was just the kick in the butt I needed! It still ranks in my top 10 all time favorite covers to this very day.

I'm still not a pro, but I did get a graduate degree, a real job (ugh) and comics and art are more important to me now than ever! Having artists out there like Tim really keeps the dream alive. It sets such lofty goals for me artistically that I just can't stop. I have to keep trying to get better. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when Tim agreed to take part in my lil' blog! I met him in Atlanta at Dragon Con way back in 1998 and he's been an artistic inspiration to me ever since.
So, thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy this half as much as I did!
Big Dog: What work of your own are you most proud?
Tim Bradstreet: I'm actually most proud of the last cover I did. It was for Criminal Macabre: My Demon Baby, issue 4. It's my default pic.

BD: Do you have a future dream project?
TB: That would be Red Sky Diary - But the dreaming is almost over cause it's about to become reality.
BD: How did you break into the industry?
TB: I started from the bottom, illustrating RPGs. I worked my ass off, paid my dues, learned the business of freelancing, and focused hard on my craft. Tim Truman was responsible for pulling me into comics which was my goal from the start.
I started as an inker, and then started to get opportunities for cover work. Then I got to do "Unknown Soldier" for Vertigo and hit the bigs.
BD: What titles (other than your own) are you reading?
TB: Any BPRD by Mignola, Arcudi, the AMAZING Guy Davis, and Dave Stewart. That team is F'ing Brilliant. The Gunslinger, Jae Lee and Rich Isanove will win Eisner's this year, no question.
BD: If you weren't drawing comics what would you be doing?
TB: I'd be composing music for film.
BD: What other work (outside of comics) do you do?
TB: I do art and graphic design for film studios, games, book publishers, etc. Also doing Production Design for movies.
