Hello All,
Now that "The Rain Won't Stop" and "Don't Mind If I Drink Myself Blind" have been uploaded and you've gotten a chance to listen, here's some facts about the songs and especially the people who wrote and performed them. In the mid 80s I had the honor of joining forces with some of NYC's greatest rock n' roll and R & B musicians on the planet in 1986--the "Godfathers of Downtown Soul" known as The Backbones. This line up included Philippe Marcade (The Senders and so many others) on lead vocals, harp, guitar, anything remotely percussive, and all around creative leadership; Brett Wilder (Justin Trouble and others) on bass guitar; Danny Ray (Mad Juana, The Hudson Dusters and others) blowing his patented 'exploding sax'; the late Brian Hudson on drums (The Pagans; [Brian we still miss you]); and the two-guitar attack led by Brian Brannigan and myself. We rehearsed a bunch of earlier-era Backbones songs (Historic 'Bones) and wrote a bunch of new songs of which we recorded (Special EP 1986) and did a couple of gigs around NYC. One noteworthy show at the 15th Street Peppermint Lounge was captured on VHS and will be released later this year. We disbanded a few short months later--I'm not exactly sure why. But I am certain anyone mentioned above could elaborate more about the band, its history, and some incredible "rock 'n roll sea stories". In fact, a great website is: www.ramalama.com. This is The Rousers website and its chock-full of fascinating information. More to follow...
