Well here we are--a midsummer night's dream now that the weather in fickle Newport is finally complying as seasonably as it can (don't want to jinx it just yet). The Sunhouse and LJ & HRL are abuzz with activity. Some new gear here and there and plenty of experimentation is in progress. Pro Tools LE v8.0 cs2 is up and running in a new Sweetwater Creation Station Rack Extreme along with some really versatile MIDI controllers including a new M-Audio Axiom 49; as these are just some of the tools to help make it all happen. I've been pretty regular about visiting Whitney Amplification (
www.whitneyamplification.com) on a nearly monthly basis in order to keep all the vintage amps up to snuff. Latest one in the shop is the 1965 Supro Big Star. It will be even safer to operate once the 'death cap' and death-trap 2-prong cord are removed/replaced. His newest line of multi-timbral 18, 20, 33, and 50 watt models are simply astonishing, to say the least. They rival any and all the SUPER EXPENSIVE amps out there on the market. Let me say that again: They rival any and all of the SUPER EXPENSIVE amps out there on the market. The Sunhouse plans to acquire a few with a commission in the fall of 2009 or whenever the window of opportunity presents itself. The Sunhouse has for years been a partner with the long-time gear purveyers The GearBox, a pair of savvy musicians who also engineer (one won a Grammy for "Ray" in 2004) and who also tech a vast inventory of vintage German broadcast equipment and the like. Although officially the GearBox as an entity dissolved in 2007, both parties remain great friends and allies to the Sunhouse and LJ & HRL. We look forward to maintaining and advancing our relationships. The Sunhouse will also be divesting in some gear that are redundancies via eBay auctions so keep your eyes and ears peeled for those. Look for the eBay handle "daengmo511" for guitar amps, power amps, 8 & 16 channel mixers, and other gear. LJ & HRL are also feverishly working on some new songs to present here shortly. Truth be known, a good portion of the songs were written upwards of 20+ years ago or were just in the 'demo' phase. And some are fairly new. Next month we'll talk about Shozo Kinoshita and the Rey Audio empire that Kinoshita-san built and some of our friends who have these awesome tools at their disposal to make incredibly great music. Its a process...stay tuned...
Cheers,
Jon
