I know the traditional meaning of "tit for tat", but do you think in the current times we could use it to mean "Free tattoo for showing your tits?" ...Not a bad idea. 

So here's the question I wish to pose...

I am planning to get ink on the inside of my right wrist -- two small chinese characters that say Charlie (who is my soon-to-be-one-year-old). There are two ways of doing this: phonetically (as in pronunciation) or by getting a Chinese name.

So I've found a couple ways I could spell out "cha" "li" phonetically, my favorite being with two characters that, according to my online research, mean "wood" and "field" (or something like that).


Another route would be to create an actual Chinese name for Charlie. Since there's no direct translation for an English name, someone could come up with a Chinese name that perhaps sounds a little like it or just means something that reflects the character of the person. This option is hugely subjective, and I'd only feel comfortable getting a name by talking to one of the Chinese people I know personally.

So the first plan is my favorite, since it's so easy and straightforward. But the last option seems to have a lot more meaning. Please tell me what you think.
