IHT/KI split review from SF&L #20
I HATE THIS / KILLIN IT! split E.P.
As much as my pre listening views can be clouded by shitty artwork, a quick read of the I HATE THIS lyrics and descriptions on the bus made my skin twitch with anticipation to hear this record the instant i got home. Five brutal tracks with visceral lyrics addressing very non typical punk topics (Kurt Vonnegut, government control of herbal medicines.......not just weed you idiot) as well as intelligent commentary on abortion rights and, most brutally, rape. Think LOOK BACK AND LAUGH'S fury with rawer production and even more emphasis on an all go no slow approach to hardcore. An overly "pingy" snare is my only complaint here, a powerful and empowering and mind numbly fast assault from New Jersey. I want more please. Fellow Jerseyites KILLIN IT! are not as visceral, not as tight but just as fast, and i am never going to be one to complain about fast (kinda) sloppy hardcore. Maybe not as chill inducing as I HATE THIS, but think DEADFALL/VOETSEK (if your on the west coast) or rougher No Way Records roster (if your in the east) and you will be on the right path. A solid split here from two sweet bands that live so close to the Grease Trucks that i can taste the Fat Indian as i type.
