We had a good time at Distortion Radio. We announced who the celebrity is that's going to appear on our new CD and talked about other new things.... here is the full interview:
Distortion Radio: Hey Brock. Thanks for stopping by to chat with us tonight!
Brock: No problem dude, Michael should be here in a second.
Distortion Radio: I guess we can start with the obvious question... how did you come together as a band?
Brock: Well the band actually started with just Michael and he was doing all of the instruments himself. Then me and Michael met at school and he asked me to come lay some drums down on some songs and it just went on from there.
Michael: Yeah... it was mainly just me and Brock for a while after we met and then the whole band came together after time.
Distortion Radio: That's pretty impressive.
Distortion Radio: You've been working on a new album. What can you tell us about it?
Brock: The new album has a complete new different sound to it and we have put a lot of work on the recording and progressing as musicians. I think that Defused fans will be really impressed with were we have went as artists.
Distortion Radio: We are very excited to premiere the first single from the album this Sunday on Scene Xposed.
Michael: Yeah, we are really amped to hear it on here! Cheating Sin was one of the first songs we completed for the new CD, I think it's a pretty good representation of the album as a whole.... Hopefully all of the fans like the new sound!
Distortion Radio: What do you think sets you apart from other bands?
Brock: We have very many styles of music and we don't box ourself into one sound.
Michael: Yeah, I think we are really open about music. We have metal songs, electronic songs.... I think there's a big a variety of stuff on the new CD.
Distortion Radio: Your music is definitely unique. Which artists have had an influence on your style?
Michael: For our last CD a major influence on me, for the guitar work, was Paul Gilbert and Joe Satriani those guys really inspired me.... but for our new CD I've had a lot of influence from Radiohead, their newer electronica sound has definatly made me want to experiment with techno stuff in our music. And Jonny Greenwood's guitar work has influenced me a lot as well.
Brock: Any artist really, I take all types of music and incorporate it into my music.
Distortion Radio: Do you think you will incorporate vocals into your music at some point?
Michael: It's something we've defiantly considered a lot.... Before we started work on the new CD I said that it'd be hard to make another instrumental CD without repeating ourselves, but the truth is that the type of music we write doesn't work with vocals. It takes away from what we want the songs to be and how we want people to hear them. I think we will be writing some vocal songs in the near future though, we are open to anything really. We just have to change our mindset on how we write songs.
Distortion Radio: That sounds pretty cool. We're looking forward to seeing what the future holds for your music. Are you planning on touring the East Coast in the near future?
Brock: We are going to try to tour around the east coast next year. We're going to go down to Florida hopefully and then try and go up and hit were we can. That'll all be next summer though.
Michael: Yeah, we're going to try to tour down there next summer like Brock said.... we've been playing live a lot lately which I think has helped shape the new sound on the new CD. Our live shows are pretty energetic and I think we've been able to capture that on the new songs.
Distortion Radio: Let us know if you'll ever be in the Mid-Atlantic area. We'd love to check out one of your shows.
Michael: We defiantly will! We've got a lot of Youtube videos up of some of our shows, so if anybody is interested in that if you type in "defused band" they should come up!
Distortion Radio: We will have to check that out. Is there anything else you'd like to say about the band or your new album?
Michael: Yeah! Actually we were waiting till tonight to announce that there's going to be a special guest on our new CD! Lazlow Jones, the guy who does the radio stations and radio shows in the Grand Theft Auto games is going to be on one of our new songs! I got a hold of him on the internet and he was really excited to be on our CD. So we're all pretty excited about that....
Distortion Radio: Wow, that is amazing! We're honored that you wanted to make that announcement here tonight.
Brock: Of course, this is where we felt like we got a big break so it was an obvious choice to announce it on here.
Michael: The internet has always been a big part of our promotion and you guys here have really helped us out in the past!
Distortion Radio: Glad to hear that. You are one of the first bands we worked with, and we hope to continue working with you in promoting your music.
Michael: Thanks a lot man! I think I've said this before but it's really hard to find a place that's so friendly to artists like this.... In the music biz it seems like it's all about the people you know, but here you make everyone feel welcome, it's really a great thing you got going.
Distortion Radio: Thank you so much. Our primary focus has always been to promote independent artists, and we try to help out as much as we possibly can!
Brock: Yeah, if we make it big will be sure to remember that we started here and mention Distortion Radio to everybody.
Distortion Radio: We certainly would appreciate that! You definitely have the talent to make it big. Thanks again for taking the time to chat here tonight. It was great talking with you!
Brock: Thanks a lot Mike! We had a lot of fun.
Michael: Thanks for having us Mike. We're looking forward to Sunday!
Distortion Radio: We're looking forward to premiering your new song on the show. Keep us updated!
Michael: Will do! Talk to you later.
