...Mars on Earth, that is -- MarsOnEarth.org !! (see July Archives too)

Most Julys I travel way up above the Arctic circle with the Haughton-Mars Project (HMP), where people from NASA, other agencies, research centers and universities go to learn how humans will do science and survive on the Moon and Mars over long durations.

The camp is set up on Devon Island, the largest uninhabited island in the world. It's a freezing cold desert like Mars, and has a 39 million year old impact crater that is very similar to the one on the Moon that we may explore someday. It's very surreal and I'm just amazed at the amount of important research that goes on up there each summer.

I'm the Education and Public Outreach Officer for the Mars Institute, the organization that runs the HMP, and my job is to report on the scientists' research with photos, videos and updates.

This is what I posted while I was there! MarsOnEarth.org (July archives)

You can watch me being a dork in the two drill videos and the spit video. :)

And we're on NASA's Analog site too!

If you're excited about humans going back to the Moon to set up permanent research bases or human missions to Mars, then you should really check out the research going on up there each summer. There are a zillion things that we need to figure out before we can do any of that successfully.

To Mars!
