Happy Kwanzaa

Enter a Kwanzaa Celebration and you will be greeted with, ""Habari gani?" which is Swahili, a Pan-African language for, "What news? Your response will be to give the name of the Kwanzaa princple being observed that day. There are 7 principles for 7 days of this celebration - Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani!

The GRITS Online Reading Club with the help of the Hatchette Book Group USA is hosting a Kwanzaa Book Give-a-way Celebration starting Friday, December 26, 2008 through News Year's Day, January 1, 2009. We will celebrate one of the Nguzo Saba - the seven important principles of Kwanzaa -  each day with a featured book to be randomly given away to five avid readers and/or visitors who submit an entry (there will be 35 winners total).

A few of the titles we will be giving away this year are, Not Easily Broken by T. D. Jakes (this book-turned film will be coming to a theater near you January 9, 2009), The American Journey of Barack Obama by Life Books, Stand the Storm by Breena Clarke and others. So mark your calendar and plan to join us here at "In The Spotlight" each day for this "book-filled" online event!
