Hi Everyone.
We have 2 new 7 inches that are NOW available. Correction, we still have some copies of the Winter Daze EP left, but we are sold out of the SOS split 7 inch. You can grab those online at their site (both on vinyl and digitally). We will be having another 7 inch come out on the Minneapolis label, Big Action records in early January. Release dates are set. We also have a split cassette coming out before the end of the year with Bad Cop. We're designing the art right now.

The first release is a 6 song EP 7 inch, entitled "The Winter Daze EP" on the Netherland's label, A Fistful of Records. In America you can pick this record up by coming to a show, e-mailing us here, or at these fine distros:
http://www.floridasdying.com/

You can read more about this release at the label's website:

The second is a split with our friends, Sleeping in the Aviary, on Science of Sound Records. It features 3 Hussy cuts and 2 SITA tracks. You can pick it up by coming to a show, e-mailing us here, or by ordering it via science of sound:

Reviews of The Winter Daze EP and the Sleeping in the Aviary Split 7 inch:

The Next Big Thing - April 26th - Lindsay Hutton - Winter Daze EP review.
http://nextbigthing.blogspot.com/2009/04/fistful-of-records-is-7-label-based-in.html
"The Hussy are from Madison, WI (hey, that’s Ben W country!). Bobby and Heather Hussy have concocted 6 short, sharp bursts of primo punk rock action on this perfectly formed format. Not an ounce of flab and maximum use of floorspace available, gotta be impressed with that. I guarantee that “Drinking Song” will hit the spot, as will the other 5."

The Vinyl Cave - May 2nd - Bob Koch
http://www.thedailypage.com/daily/article.php?article=25798
"Madisn duo The Hussy unleashes six high-energy garage rockers in Winter Daze, drawn from sessions recorded over the winter in the studios of Kyle Urban and Ricky Riemer and released via the Netherlands-based label A Fistful of Records. The EP was the first of two seven inches featuring released in March that features the band."

Fan-Belt, Milwaukee - May 5th - Erin Wolf
http://fan-belt.com/2009/05/05/the-hussys-army-of-two/
"The Hussy's two-person garage-punk army is ready to seek and destroy eardrums. The ammo? Drums and guitar. And vocals. Bobby Wegner (guitar, vocals) and Heather Sawyer (drums, vocals) have gained recognition in Madison (their hometown) and Milwaukee through their raucous live performances as well as in Europe, through the release of their latest 7″ Winter Daze (title track, below) on the Netherlands’ a Fistful of Records. The six-song EP 7″ was released on Fistful back in March and in April in Madison/Milwaukee.  Short blasts of songs make for one speedy and thoroughly enjoyable, energetic freak-out...Wegner and Sawyer’s shout/snarl-ed lyrics ear-blasting the trials and tribulations of drinking, loud music, summer and turkeys, sub-three-minute-style.
The band’s split with Madison’s Sleeping in the Aviary is a satisfying spin of both, but the Hussy dominates the wax on their side, kicking and screaming out riffage, crashing drums and those confident, alternating vocals that demand attention, right now. Snakes? Snakes! That’s right. Everything gets punctuated to the utmost, and then some."

Smashin' Transistors - May 6th - Dale Merrill
"'How can a band so small make a sound so big?' We've probably all seen it used how many a number of times by now when discussing a two piece band? Is it really all that puzzling? Ya turn it up and rock it out. The trick is though doing something more with it after that step to keep it from being tedious. Madison, Wisconsin's the Hussy have figured that part out.
Songs big on beats that make you want to clap along in a drunken head shake/hips sway rhythm. Bobby's bangs out '55 meets '77 rockin' guitar blang and calling out lines in a slight Sprechgesang trading off with Heather's cheap wine soaked bad girl she-howls while she knocks hard out a beat. The energy is high through every song. Yes, they are loud...and yes, they are working from the garage punk playbook that many a band before them has done but there's a character here that makes the band burn bright with a particular charm and flair."

Hindsight Unseen - May 27th - James Dolata
I have to start off by apologizing for not updating the blog for a while, but it’s a been a trying fortinight.  You see, I recently received a couple of 7” from the Madison, WI duo The Hussy.  Upon receiving the record, I quickly realized that I don’t have a record player.  So the first couple of days that their albums were in my possession I was busy making calls to friends, trying desperately to temporarily procure one of those fancy phonographs.  And after a few long days, I was able to get my hands on a turntable.  Fate was finally smiling on me, or so I thought.
Because I tend to listen to the music I’m reviewing as I write the review, I booted up my computer as soon as the record player was hooked up.  I walked away from the monitor for a minute and upon returning viewed a blue screen with words and numbers I had never seen before.  Being a technical retard, I called my roommate Jeremy downstairs.  After a quick investigation, he informed me that my computer’s hard drive had crashed.  So the for the small fee of a medium Pizza Hut pizza, Jeremy was nice enough to get everything working again in less than a day.  I did lose everything that was previously saved, but I didn’t care.  I had my computer back and was ready to write a review, right?
I turned my computer on, turned the record player on, and started listening to Side B’s opener “Head Set,” and suddenly all the trouble seemed worth the wait.  This band really seemed to cut through all the bullshit, giving an incredible high energy “garage rock on crack” feel.  I actually checked the liner notes of the album to reconfirm that there were only two people in this band.  I couldn’t wait for the next track.  Unfortunately, I’m still waiting.
As soon as the first track ended and the next one, “Winter Daze,” began, the turntable slowed down to an eventual halt, never to start again.  This isn’t even my record player, and now it’s broke.  I started to wonder if some higher power just didn’t want me to write a review.  If that actually was the case, I’m really spitting in the face of some deity.   Because even though I didn’t get to hear this release in its entirety, I did check out as much as I could online.  And believe me, it’s all really fucking good.
So be sure to check out The Hussy and buy all their shit.  And seeing as most of the people who read this blog reside in the Milwaukee area, go check them out live…

7 Inches Every Day  - June 1, 2009 - Jason Dean
http://7inches.blogspot.com/2009/06/hussy-on-fistful-of-records.html
...this one is from Fistful of Records A 'strictly underground vinyl label'...underground vinyl? Why am I only hearing about his now you ask? Well, turns out they are based in Holland...so it's not something I would have ever stumbled on if it weren't for The Hussy, they also released a Jeff Novak 7" in 2004! Way ahead of the curve. Hussy's other single, a split with other single with Sleeping with the Aviary, I'm planning on getting to later this week.

This Winter Daze EP is a screened three tone fluorescent pink, gold and black hand stamped screened sleeve, with tiny mice running all over the place on it. Bobby's drinking a beer and Heather is holding a lollipop and a hairbrush. You know.... now that I describe that... it really makes perfect sense. Drinking and lollipops. A punch in the face and a box of wine. Two things that even if you don't want them to...they will end up going together. They're trying to punch your ears in the face with 6 tracks of dense power pop.

I love duos, I think there is immediately something special about two people together collaborating with two instruments and two vocals...especially when it's a guy and a girl then there's another entity entirely. When it works in any genre it can be so genius...Matt and Kim, Mates of State...I don't know...It just allows for something really unique to happen.
The Hussy are creating this huge pop punk sound, harmonizing off each other. They trade off vocals, swapping versus, Heather sings backup woooo's, while Bobby is creating the chorus. They fill every second of every song making as loud of a harmonious power chord punch as humanly possible.

The A-Side standout is definitely the 'Drinking Song' which can be summed up in 6 words, 'Let's go out and drink tonight.' Clearly they are a live crowd pleaser, this whole sound is distilled from what must be a lot of experience playing live. Don't give anyone a second to get their bearings, don't give anyone a second to question if two people can blow the doors off with a verse chorus verse. Everything across both sides is crisp and punchy, there's not a hiss or over modulation to be found. The Hussy wants to be clear...here's the song, we're not hiding behind anything and when this over, we're going to do it again.

On the B-Side track Head Set, I love this singing back and forth almost half mocking each other yelling 'Head Set!'. On 'Winter Daze' they have this great almost Pixies like harmony here ...Bobby is mostly doing his talking vocals but Heather's inspiring a harmony, it sounds like she's got a trained voice, leading the melody. This one isn't as frantic as the other steamroller tracks, and it's a great title cut.

Then on 'Turkey' they get a little off the pop punk train here and almost go... dare I say grunge? The chords have a lot of distortion and length to them. there's a lot more layers and even some kind of electronics. I don't know for me it's something from that late 90's Mudhoney...with a little Dino Jr. thrown in. At the end, when the track fades out it sounds like Bobby and Heather are reading reviews of bands? Was this going on the whole track? Are these reviews of Hussy?

I have to say these songs flow together really well, it's a concise sample of Hussy's power. I'm going over the tracks individually, but that's like dissecting every piece of sushi, it's a perfect bite...don't think about it too much, and before you know it, it's gone, but it was damn good while it lasted."

From 7 Inch Atlanta - Bobby M.  - June 1, 2009 (This is just about our demo...but he will be reviewing the 7 inches VERY soon)
http://7inchatlanta.blogspot.com/2009/06/hussy-demo-shows-promise.html
A lot can be said about this young, Madison, Wi. based duo, as based on these demos they surely will emerge in due time from a state already known for quality bands like Plexi 3 and The Goodnight Loving.

The best track is "One Time," as Bobby, their guitarist, sings the verses and drummer Heather joins in on the choruses of this fast-paced tune that sounds like a really good Kill Rock Stars release. You know, kind of like one of the newer Mika Miko songs. Maybe that's why this was picked last October by Tobi Vail as her "demo of the week."

"Social Critique" is also a strong track, as it is lighting fast and beautifully sloppy like any good garage-punk song. This one will draw plenty of cliched "that's a lot of noise coming from just a drummer and guitarist" comments we already hear in Atlanta about groups like Jesse Nobody.

Another standout is "Drinking Song," as it's hard to go wrong with a song about drinking, especially one that features Heather's beautiful voice and ends with "cha cha cha."

The band explores what all they can do as dueling girl-guy vocalists on these demos, as they go from call-and-response on "Double Dare" to having Heather provide "yadda yadda yah" backup vocals for Bobby's equally adequate voice on "On The Cover."

This is a good demo, as the band tears through nine energetic songs in only 13 minutes. It's good enough to make you wish this duo would make a stop in Atlanta whenever they tour.

7 Inches Every Day Blog - Jason D. - June 6, 2009
http://7inches.blogspot.com/2009/06/hussy-sleeping-in-aviary-split-on.html

The first track on the Hussy side, 'One Time', is a more abrasive Hussy than the previously reviewed single...dirtier and raw. It practically sounds recorded live in a huge room sound, Heather and Bobby have tons more attitude here supporting each others verses and the whole thing is in danger of flying apart the entire time...completely off the rails. I think the vocals back and forth supports this great garage punk pop sound...making it even bigger, even more fun...singing along with themselves...good naturedly yelling at each other.
The solo towards the end is just ridiculous, clean gated overdrive...where in between notes there's just a hint of feedback, low crunchy feedback.
At the end there's all kinds of radio static, flipping around channels with lonely piano chords.... nice segue to 'I Got Soul' where the dirty guitar is still on 11, full of their sludgy distortion. The huge sound is even more cavernous, the drums heavy hitting with tons of low end. Lots of reverb...even on Bobby's vocals, when he's singing 'Yea I've got soul...yea I do.'
They're referencing that electric blues history...well, at least I think they definitely have that influence poking through with pieces like the backwards blues scale on 'Snakes'. Heather takes main vocal duties while Bobby frantically keeps up this up the guitar line which breaks up in stuttered off beats when Heather bashes the snare and kick at the same time.
No....We don't / we don't / even care.

Yes you do Hussy.

I have to say on this effort... that does it, I'm hooked...this dirtier sound is right on the edge of being completely in the red, it's more blown out and completely fits the garage punk sound even better.

Bobby graciously agreed to provide the track 'One Time' from this single to download. I'm also playing a bunch of stuff behind the podcast interview so you get a sense of their stuff.

Maximum Rock n Roll - July 09 issue
THE HUSSY - "Winter Daze" EP
I've always been a fan of two-piece bands, starting years and years ago with a German duo called ABSTURZENDE BRIEFTAUBEN. This one is no exception to the rule. They are catchy and upbeat, which i always like. They're also raw and very lo-fi, which I also happen to like. The fact that they have the male/female competing vocals just seals the deal, I am not kidding you. From Madison, Wisconsin, this is the shit.

Lucid Culture - NYC - July 3, 2009
http://lucidculture.wordpress.com/2009/07/03/three-killer-vinyl-eps-by-the-hussy/

The Hussy like short songs. They keep it simple, just volcanic, distorted gutar and drums, punk beats and blistering garage-inflected tunes. Both guitarist Bobby and drummer Heather sing. Sometimes they take turns, sometimes they do it together. It’s catchy, anthemic, fun stuff. If what they’re doing in the studio is any indication – a lot of this sounds completely live – their shows ought to be killer. And they have three records out on vinyl, something that more bands like this ought to be doing.
The Winter Daze 7″ manages to squeeze in six songs. One Word is like Ramones without the bass, with sassy punk pop vocals. A couple of these are barely a minute long: Herbie, sung by Heather sounds like a NY Dolls demo with one of the groupies joining in the melee. Turkey might or might not be about slaughtering a bird – it’s as assaultive as everything else here. Head Set  is sexy, confrontational 3-chord garage punk with guy/girl vox. Winter Daze is poppier, with layers of guitar including an incisive solo – and is that a Casio? The best song on the ep is the irresistibly fun bubblegum punk Drinking Song which turns the original idea of teenage pop on its head. What do kids do? They get wasted! “Let’s go out and drink tonight with me!”
Also available is the Science of Sound split 7″ with the entertainingly playful garage/punk/noise band Sleeping in the Aviary. The Hussy’s contributions are I Got Soul, a minor-key riff-rock rumble; One Time, which sounds a little like X,  layers of overtones and natural distortion screaming from Bobby’s amp, and a barely thirty-second number about snakes that resembles the DK’s.
The Creepy Season bonus tracks (which you can also get online) include Oh No, vintage Stooges gone unhinged, lo-fi, zeros style; Brown Eyes and its 60s Sonics fuzztone guitar vibe and Going Home, a snotty frenzy of cymbal crashes and a catchy walking guitar line. The Hussy have a whole slew of Madison and Milwaukee shows coming up: Summerfest next year, guys!

Terminal Boredom! - Late July 09

http://www.terminal-boredom.com/reviews24.html
V/A The Hussy/Sleeping in the Aviary split 7"
The Hussy side is pretty damn good! No shit! "One Time" is teeth-baring and mean, tempered by the guy-girl vox, but the guitar slinging is really commendable and it's a shithouse stomper. "I Got Soul" sounds like a vintage Statics cut (pared down by a member of course) and "Snakes" maybe ventures into half-assed Drags turf (sans the bombast). An unexpectedly good side worth of Nineties-inflected two-piece garage. I like the nastier approach The Hussy take on this record than I do the poppier stuff on their 7". While that stuff wasn't bad, it sounds a little blander after listening to them kick out the jams on this. The Sleeping in the Aviary side just flat-out sucks, which is a shame and exactly what I expected. That's the ultimate sin of split 7"es kids! Be careful before you decide to make a pact with Satan and do one, because if the other band shits the bed, you've only got half a good record (that is, if you keep up your end of the bargain). Which is a tough position to be in. Because half of a good record is a tough sell. Let's just say this is a one-sided Hussy single, and on those merits, I think it's fantastic. I guess the good news about this is that you never have to worry about flipping this one over.(RK)

The Hussy "Winter Daze" EP
Madison, WI two-piece guy-girl bang-it-out style stuff. To get the cliched reviewer description right out of the way, let's say this sounds like a dirtier and more rockin' Touch-Me-Nots or something. They manage to keep things lively by actually writing some good songs and not falling into the blues-influenced pit most outfits of this make-up descend into. It's legit rock'n'roll all the way through, with a nice garage/Fifties streak and a couple packets of sugar-pop, a lot of well-done harmonizing and switching up the vocals (and I think I heard some cha-cha-cha-ing in there somewhere...real cute), pretty clean guitar sounds, solid drumming (for a chick! Zing!) and a well recorded/mastered single (this thing is pretty damn loud!). They add a guest bass player for the last cut and really tear the place up. Not bad for a genre/style that (unjustifiably, I know) doesn't seem that exciting anymore. Very likeable, I'm thinking odds are good they're the best band in Madison and I bet they're real sweet kids judging from the letter they sent along. So, nice kids + ok record = I won't rag on 'em. Scum stats: 520 hand-numbered copies with silkscreened sleeves. (RK)

Rock Around the Blog - Late July 09 - Portugal
http://www.rockaroundtheblog.com/
The Hussy are a American duo from Madison (Wisconsin), composed of Heather on drums and voices and Bobby on guitar and "screams", they present their debut record, an EP edited by A Fistful of Records, of title "Winter Daze", composed of 6 abrasive songs simple and short, but very effective, in that deluge explode in garage punk sounds in fun that never stops, the A side of the title "Herbie Side" can be heard with our brain in on or off, which is good because it gives us several options, however highlight the simplicity of "Drinking Song", which invites us to leave out and get drunk, while "Cheli Side" (B side) is better composed, "Head Set", "Winter Daze" and "Turkey" are fantastic, give it a listen and see the wonder that the guitar and battery sounds, plus the uproar voices. "Play it Often and Loud".

Kamikaze Tailspin - 8/01/09
http://kamikazetailspin.blogspot.com/2009/08/hussy-winter-daze.html
"Winter Daze" is one of those records that enters your ears as a way to possess your body, only to then nest inside your brain for a few days before it compels you to replay the record & have the process start all over again. The Hussy knows this & (as a result) is the reason why this is so fucking good. Copies are still available at A Fistful of Records. They also have a split out with Sleeping With The Aviary on Science of Sound Records that you should also look into getting. It's pretty good. If you live in Madison, Wisconsin don't hesitate to see them play. The rest of you (myself included) will have to wait until they tour your area. Until then, this 7incher & the split will have to do. What's that? Your body is urging you to drive to Madison, Wisconsin? I'm sure.

Des Oreilles Dans Babylone(European Review, can't read French so we're not exactly sure what it says...)
http://www.desoreillesdansbabylone.com/2009/09/concours-hussy-vinyles-gagner.html

The West Georgian - Atlanta
http://www.thewestgeorgian.com/the-hussy-show-off-vocals-in-new-e-p-1.631391
Bobby Moore.

Madison-based two-piece band The Hussy give notice that yet another solid garage punk band has emerged from Wisconsin with this six-song E.P. released earlier this year by Netherlands’ Fistful of Records.
The band features Bobby on guitar and Heather on drums, and they share vocals.  There are several ways to capitalize on having a male and female singer in the same band, and The Hussy does them all, from harmonies to call and response to classic-sounding female backup vocals.
They get to play shows and relax with 7 Inch Atlanta favorites from Wisconsin like Plexi 3, The International Datelines, The Goodnight Loving and The Flips. Those bands are all from Milwaukee, which scene-wise is almost as awesome as Brooklyn and “pretend New York,” also known as Atlanta.
The A-side features three songs already released in a more raw form on a demo tape that was released last year.
The best track is “One Time,” as Bobby, their guitarist, sings the verses and drummer Heather joins in on the choruses of this fast-paced tune that sounds like a really good Kill Rock Stars release. Maybe that’s why this was picked last October by Riot Grrrl legend and Kill Rock Stars boss Tobi Vail as her “demo of the week.”
“Herbie” follows and is sung primarily by Heather. When Heather sings, Bobby usually is relegated to backup vocal duties, and that brings a little B-52s element to the party.
The last song on the A-side, “Drinking Song,” seems to be the most popular with reviewers. It’s a good one, no doubt, as it is hard to go wrong with a cynical take on feeling the need to go out and have a beer just to have a good time and connect with others.
The flipside has three new, upbeat songs on it. “Head Set” is a fast punk tune that utilizes the call and response method of mixing male and female vocals.  It also has a sweet-sounding organ part toward the end, which is a nice surprise from a two-piece band that normally goes the no frills route when it comes to garage punk.
“Winter Daze” may be Bobby’s best vocal performance to date, and it is fitting to listen to a song that references the changing of the seasons now as it finally is denim jacket and scarf wearing time.
“Turkey” closes this release with some upbeat, pop-influenced thrashing. It’s probably the third best punk song with “turkey” in its title, and there is no shame in taking a backseat to Mika Miko, one of the best bands going today, and The Damned, one of the best ever.
This is an exciting young group worthy of bringing fresh new sounds to your record collection. They are also a group needing to come to Atlanta soon, preferably with another one of the before-mentioned Milwaukee bands.
