your piercings are awesome. Shit i didn't know you can make it so much more beautiful like you have.
I know this must seem awkward but i have been wanting to be a piercer for a while i just don't know how to get started. I'm only 17 but I want to start looking now for a place where i can be an apprentice. After seeing your work I would love to apprentice for you. I've heard it's hard to get an apprenticeship, but oh well, your work is good so its worth a try. But I have a few questions.
where do i go to get a license / certificate (if i need one)
How much is it?
Location ?
etc.
Please help me out on this. If you don't want to i understand, thank you though

MY RESPONSE.......

Hey girl....

Awesome that you're interested. In order to apprentice here, you'd have to live in ATL, and you'd have to be over 18....

Getting an apprenticeship just takes some persistence, and patience. You have to show your face a lot around the shop, because shops prefer to have people around that they are already comfortable with.

The other thing is money. You are learning trade that can be worth a lot in your future. An apprenticeship is the same as going to college, and you gotta pay for it.
It's different everywhere, but a piercing apprenticeship can range from $500 to a few thousand.....

So.....keep at it......scour the internet for as much piercing knowledge as you can absorb, but remember, it isn't all correct. Check out as much as you can, but be prepared for someone teaching you to contradict some things you saw along the way.....

OK....any other questions....see ya....Max

My apprenticeships were that hardest 2 years in my life, but I stuck though it... Trial by fire, kiddies! If you really want it, stick though all the bullshit and do your best! Show you want it bad enough and that you can be a part of this industry! We professionals tend to be a bit territorial, so beware and be prepared.

Starting at 17 is a good idea, considering where I'm from it took me about 10 years to fully finish my apprenticeship, with wanting to eat and all those silly details. I'm finally in a city that needs a female piercer so desperately, they convinced me to move here while I was on a two week vacation. If you love our craft, and you want to do it more than on a whim, then it's a journey worth taking. I agree with the comment above, it's a territorial business, and might I add that many of us feel very nervous about sharing knowledge that can be used recklessly if you don't take it seriously. We've all seen the disaster that comes from unskilled, yet overeager hands. But please feel free to follow us down the path of body modification as a collector and spend time in our shops, where we will welcome you with open arms and lots of amusing sights to see until you are sure you're ready to attempt to join our ranks.
All the best!

haha. I love how kids all want to be piercers or tattoo artists just because it's cool and they get "scene points" for it.

I also love how people who never spend any time at a tattoo shop expect to be able to walk in and get a job. lol

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who likes piercings and tattoos, but dosn't want to become a piercer/tattoo artist.

not that the person in the letter is a poseur, or anything.
I was just talking about how teenagers are generally pretty dumb.

I would kill to be your apprentice!
I am going to a piercing school(3 whole days)
I know that's not long enough to learn a craft so I want to apprentice too.
To bad I won't be living near you!
I have to do mine in Washington!

I just wish I could find a wonderful job doing what I love and being who I really am with out worrying about others looking at me all fucked up because I have pink hair and what not. I know that tattooing and piercing are not for me, I'm on the other side of the boat (I'm the one who gets tattooed and pierced). I think I shall try makeup art though. I absolutely love it. Plus I haven't ever been to school and am already pretty decent at it. I'm super creative. That is also a hard trait to get into as well, and make good money at.
I suppose it's worth it!

I'd start all over if it meant I had the opportunity to apprentice under you.

The life of an apprentice absolutely blows. I get very little sleep working a full time job and pulling damn near full time hours at the shop. But if you want it bad enough, you wont mind skipping out on your social life (and sleep) for a period of time.
