Country Interviews Online .NET - Country music gets a bad rep for its over-use of clichés and double entendres.  But if you enjoy country clichés at their best and everything else country music stands for then you will thoroughly enjoy this St. Louis, MO native's self-titled CD.  He's got the party boy anthem in "It's Gonna Be a Long Night," the Red Neck anthem in "Up to My Neck in Red" and the Small Town Boy Anthem in "Slow Down in a Small Town."  But what Matt Steel also has is Country with a hint of humor and a whole lot of heart.  In the outrageously tongue in cheek "I Like Her, But She Don't Like Me," Matt belts out "I'd kiss her but…. (place your insinuating thoughts here)… she won't kiss me."  Still after his playful words, he is able to soften up for what is the CD's most beautiful and hit-ready ballad "I Just Love What She Did" about realizing how a past love could make you realize how great the new one is, similar to Garth Brooks "Unanswered Prayers."  Much of this CD is very reminiscent of early Garth with his rocking numbers and his touching ballads.  Now if only he could get a hold of Garth's production budget, this CD would be topping music charts- clichés and all.
