This month we had two out of town black belts visiting - Mr. Mark Retana and Mr. Michael Witt.  Both were in for training and promotion purposes which means it was a very busy month!  There will be new content soon including photographs and video of the trip.  I know it’s been slow going on updates but there will be new goodies soon!

In our curriculum (Mr. Jim Mitchell’s system), Black Belts testing for rank have a lot of material to get proficient at.  From 2nd to 6th Degree Black Belt, each rank has a requirement of 32 self-defense techniques, plus various forms and sets.  Other stipulations apply depending on rank ranging anywhere from teaching time, time in grade, understanding of knowledge factors, turning in a Thesis, turning out high ranking students, etc…  This month, I am curious to get a little input and insight into how other systems and arts promote advanced Black Belts from Degree to Degree.

What are the requirements in your art or system for advancement between Degrees of Black Belt, and what do you feel is a reasonable expectation to justify ranking up in Degrees?
