Look out for a performance by Steve Bingham (violin, electric violin and live looping) of my piece 'AFTERS' at St Giles Church Cambridge.
Steve writes:
"I’m calling the concert “Ascension”, as it will be a sort of late
launch for my latest CD. It will have my normal eclectic mix of pieces,
including some old favourites and some new works and arrangements.
If you can make it you’re likely to hear music by Bach, Pachelbel, Philip
Glass, Coldplay, me, Andrew Keeling, Steven Kelly, Ysaye, F L Dunkin Wedd, and others….
The concert will be at 7.30pm and tickets will be available on the door. You can also buy tickets now via my online shop - click here.
This will, I hope, be a really enjoyable event: It will be fairly informal, with a chance to enjoy a glass of wine while listening to the music. Do join me if you can."
About 'AFTERS':
------------------------
Musik über Musik....
In 1535, Luther wrote the chorale Vom Himmel hoch da komm’ ich her.
In 1746 Bach wrote his Canonical Variations on the Christmas hymn “Vom Himmel hoch da komm’ ich her” BWV 769.....
In 1956 Stravinsky based his Choral Variations on Bach’s Canonical Variations.
In 1978 Karl Aage Rasmussen wrote Parts Apart for string quartet, flute and oboe - a deconstruction of Stravinsky’s arrangement of Bach.
In 2008, I wrote Afters - a free interpretation of Rasmussen deconstructing Stravinsky’s arrangement of Bach’s variations on Luther…
How referential can you get??!!
