Current mood:Say it ain't so.........
June 28th Magnum O tore it down at The Gathering. Now fyi The Gathering iz a monthly event featuring all aspects of hip hop culture held @ The Rotunda. While we were on stage it was obvious the b-boys weren't really interested in what we were dealing with, which iz all good. But it made me realize hip hop iz segregated. Remember when every group had a deejay. Jam Master Jay, Eric B., Jazzy Jeff, Scott La Rock, Polo etc. The only groups that still have DJ's are 10 or more year vets. DJs are the backbone of this very culture. Emcees and breakers were inspired by the rhythms the DJ selected. Every artform thrived off one another to form a universal cipher called HIP HOP. Quite naturally emcees hang with emcees, writers with writers and so on, but I realized last night theres clearly a divide that iz obvious to an observant person such as myself. I don't think, I know it comes from no knowledge (aknowledgment) of one another's talents, no wisdom (dialouge) about how similar all of us are, and no understanding of the importance of unity. So the next time you hear a DJ blend two different records together flawlessly, or cee a wonderful piece of graffitti, witness Crazy Legs in action, or come to a Magnum O show just know were all 1. Peace
