Well, went to my first fire of the season today, and boy were we bored brainless for most of the day!

I missed the first page (to go with my own brigade), as I was going for my bike ride at 5.30am this morning. But at 6.15ish I got paged to go to the same fire with the Remote Area Fire Team.

So, being requested, I rushed to Ablbion Park Fire Control Centre, then we went up to Mt Kembla to where the fire was.

For most of the day, the IMT forgot about us, until we radioed, asking for something to do, letting them know we had completed tasking etc.

All in all, it was relativey quiet for us, working away from the main fire (as the RAFT is basically a hand crew - no water).

But looking at the size of the fire at 5.45 (I could see the huge smoke plume on my way home on my bike ride), I can tell that this season might look like a big one. I will most probably be deployed with the RAFT, and as well with my own brigade.

From what I've heard from my mates around the state, we'll be busy!
