Current mood:  sad
Category: Pets and Animals
My dearest friends and family,
I always knew it existed, but I finally brought myself to research the sad truth of puppy mills on the internet, as I met a puppy mill survivor in the dog park today. We both went after the same tennis ball and there I learned her story.
Here is a wonderful organization that is trying to stop it. Please support them:
http://www.stoppuppymills.org/
We can't ignore it anymore folks, thought I know it hurts to hear it. I even read one of the undercover investigators comment to the owner of the mill and it said to "please either euthanize or treat the dachshund with the broken back"!!
Ugghh.
What a sad world we live in. That a poor fellow dachshund is sitting with an untreated broken back, helpless and with no human to rescue him. THAT makes me cry.
UPDATE: As if puppy mills weren't bad enough, I also have just found out about dog auctions. I want to bite the humans that allow this to go on as if it is normal! Right on the butt! See this link:
http://www.awawatchdog.com/0105/index.htm

Here is a very sad story if you've got a bit of time to read it. It is the story at the bottom of the page that you download. Get a kleenex!

it's terrible... makes me cry too.  People dont understand the severity of the nature until they take the time to look into it.  People that allow those things to happen should have somewhat of the same things done to them.  It makes me want to vomit.

Leslie, I thought this same thing!  I think when these puppy mill owners go to hell, for them it will be in a cage where they can't raise their head up or stretch their legs.  There will be 95 degree humidity and heat and there will be no food or water for them.  Also, if they cry out in protest, they will be hit with a 2 X 4 to "shut them up" (which I have also read about them doing).  They have it coming....

How SAD!!! If I could, I'd get my mommy to resuce ALL of the homeless, unwanted doggies in the world. But she rescued 2 (me and my big sister) from the dachshund and dalmatian rescue organizations. These are awesome non-profit organizations that provide temporary homes for homeless doxies and dallies (and other breeds) while they wait for a permanent home. Definitely a better alternative than puppy mills. DO NOT give them your money!!! Save a homeless guy or girl instead! (plus, we appreciate having a home and being loved way more since we were once without it)

You preach it Frank!  Good for your mom and you for being so educated.  See, that is such a problem, too.  There are so many uneducated people that walk into a pet store, see that "cute puppy in the window" and buy it on impulse.  Every single puppy sold just keeps the whole sad process going.  Keep on spreadin the word!

You rock Frankie!

Oooh, if I ever saw one, I would want to do something that I probably shouldn't say.  But there is a redeeming part of this.  On our new album, we have a 50's song called "He Came From A Puppy Mill", and I think all the dogs will like what "Johnny" and I do to the puppy mill at the end....hee hee....

My boyfriend rowdy came from a puppy farm. when my mom and dad took him to the vet they found out he had heart worms and ended up spending close to 1000 dollars getting him treated. they told the puppy farm owner about it to get there money back and then they tried to take rowdy from them so they could "put him down". my mama and daddy wouldent let him. now rowdy is doing fine hes just too lazy to play with me sometimes haha.

Sad.

My mommy has told me stories about this and I knew it exists. I can't stand it! It makes me so mad and sad and my mommy just wants to beat the poop out of people who do this and other horrible things to animals!

She told me a great quote I will never forget.

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

How can people be so heartless and cruel? Are they just stupid? I mean come on. How can someone look at a puppy or even a grown dog of any breed and not have their heart melt and fill with love? Puppy mill people are evil in our opinion and should be torchured for eternity, and they will be. And they will be begging us for mercy. Us pups, we don't deserve this. We are innocent and cute and lovable and just want some love and attention and a full belly at night. Grrrrr it just makes smoke come outa our ears to think about this. We just don't understand the cruelty of this world. All of our love and prayers go out to the unfortunate pups that are stuck in these horrible places. It's just the saddest thing ever. People can be so heartless and cruel and us pups with good mom's and dad's are just so fortunate and our little hearts break for those who aren't so blessed. Our mom wishes more than anything that she could have them all.

God Bless all Puppy Mill Pups and all mistreated animals everywhere!!!

In loving memory of Lupo

From my Mommy (Amy):

Yes, this is all too true. Daily, I am reminded of the cruelty we humans can inflict. I work in a vet hospital, and every day I hear a story that breaks my heart. For example, we had a chihuahua come in yesterday that was feeling ill. The owner told me that he came from a lady out of Corpus Christy, TX that was keeping over 370 chi's in her home! She said that when animal control took posession of the pups, that they literally had to scrape the fecal material off their skin; it had become so impacted that it was growing with the skin.

On to better things, I am also reminded daily of the warmth and tenderness that humans possess. People, like us, that love their animals...that would do anything to make their lives as wonderful as possible.

I believe that there is a special place in hell for all the rotten people who abuse animals...as there is also a special place in heaven for those of us that adore them.

OMG! I have to say I was the person thinking that I was saving my pups life from a mill, when I bought one of the loves of my life, Herby. We stopped on the side of the road to see the puppies, it was the sadest day of my life. There were three 9 week old Rat Terrier pups in one little cage, they had no food or water, it was a very HOT august day. When I took Herby from the cage he freaked out when I loved him up, even though he stunk to high heaven. He had never felt love. My husband said no Billie, you can't save them all. I walked away and Herby watched me walk all the way to the car. I cried all the way to the hotel, thought about him all night. My husband looked at me in the morning and said you are still thinking about those dogs aren't you? OF COARSE I WAS!!!! I went to get him immediately, but I felt so bad because I couldn't get them all. I paid the $300 and they then told me that he was a Rat Terrier Mix, but I was in love. My vet told me that he was very skinny, had a bad heart murmer, bad fleas, and had kennel cough, which he brought home to my Chihuahua. I would only wish to change one thing in the story, that he did not come from that awful place, I called to turn the kennel in, but I guess not much happened because they still sell dogs at the local flea market and on the side of the road. All my pups are "rescues", but I will never buy another puppy from a person with such greed and hate in their hearts. Herby, Cuddles and Hairy are the loves of my life, it just breaks my heart to hear stories of poor animals in those places. You were right, i read the story and needed many kleenex and kisses from my pups.
