Local Musicians Band Together for Charity<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />....

A brand-new compilation CD featuring 20 of Perth’s best and brightest musicians will be released next month, with all proceeds going directly to charity.

VOW Educational Services, a Perth-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged children, hand-picked a mixture of emerging and iconic local musicians for the project, including Triple J favourites The Drones and The Kill Devil Hills, local legend Nathan Gaunt and young up-and-comers The Chemist.

The resulting compilation, a 20-track album entitled South China Sea, will be distributed nationally by Perth’s own Firestarter Music, with every cent going straight to VOW.

Run entirely by volunteers, VOW’s existing projects include the establishment of an orphanage in China, and sponsorship for school children throughout south-east Asia, as well as a series of educational music workshops conducted in remote indigenous communities.

The charity’s founder, Damien Thornber, also appears on the compilation with his band, the Orphans.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to let people know about VOW, about what we’re doing for the kids,” Mr Thornber said.

South China Sea will be launched on the 19th of April, in a day-long, double-stage concert at North Fremantle’s Railway Hotel.

From 1.00PM, the Railway stages will come alive with a superb selection of local talent, including The Chemist, Nat Ripepi, A Month of Sundays and Black Board Minds.

Entry is $10 on the door. To find out more about the VOW and its projects, visit www.vow.org.au(.)
