Sea Songs
A dream cabaret

A symbolist set of 21st century sea shanties

whirling Laylage Courie's seductive text and raw voice

with Matt Moran's percussion & vibraphone.

Twisting the intellectual eroticism of early Parisian cabaret, Courie and Moran pose as diseuse and accompanist in a dreamy, extravagant set of 21st century sea shanties about lonely shores, impossible love, wayward birds, and drowned men.  Courie pushes her role to the limit with extended vocal techniques, stories in an imaginary language, an impossibly long cigarette holder, and her own mesmerizing text.  Moran reconceptualizes vocal accompaniment with the eerie, watery-steel sound of the vibraphone, as well as cymbal and bass drum.
