There's been a mutual affinity between ApSci and Sydney-based radio station FBi since 2003, and we're proud to be featured on their new podcast this month. It's a chance to get a sneak listen to the first single "Under Control."

Download it here.

It caught me off guard being back-announced as a 'hip hop group.' I guess I've been engrossed in this new album, and made up my mind that people would no longer consider us a hip hop group after it comes out. (Which will be in early 09).

So I had this little mental ping pong just now while washing the dishes... Gift of Gab once said "Y'all are hip hop, but you're not... but you're more than hip hop, y'all are a new kind of music that has hip hop in it..." I think Okayplayer said something similar about our last record on Quannum: "This is hip hop, but it isn't." Q-Tip recently said Justin Timberlake's FutureSex LoveSounds was a hip hop record that was carefully crafted for the pop world... I mean sure we can get all philosophical and say "What is hip hop anymore..." But still I know it when I hear it. At least I know I love the shit out of some MF DOOM and when Will Smith comes on the radio I change the channel...

So here's my first narcissistic bloggy question in a while... What are we?

You are...

APSCI!!! Your own food group. You know, like Domino's Pizza.

For real though, anyone who loves and knows music can tell that you've been INFLUENCED by hip-hop for sure. Like hip-hop is most likely your main foundation. What's sprouted from that hip-hop bud has been to the likes of an electro/trip-hop/experimental/abstract (to me) flower of greatness. A more "modern" sounding hip-hop but the roots are still the same. You bleed out notes and words from what's in your brains from now and then (your life experiences, influences and current technologies, let's say) making the present a crisp yet mashed treat to the ears.

'Robosex' was the first song I was exposed to by you guys. The first time I heard it I didn't "get" it. I listened to it again and it clicked and I fell in love! Much like a lot of Aphex Twin's music or perhaps many Radiohead songs but closer to the hip-hop realm. So your songs definitely makes one THINK musically, which is great. Like, "What is this beat? Why is it going like that and this and usually you don't hear shit like that... OOOOOH okay. Nice. Original and DIFFERENT!!!" Then the groove is there and so on and so forth and okay now I'm probably not making sense and I'm rambling.

Anyway, I just love you guys and can't wait for the new shit! You are wonderful and cannot be fit into any one category or genre.
