Well, the contest is over.
And guess what?
I WON!
I am now officially "The Funniest Person in the Twin Cities" (2008 edition)
I know, I can't believe it either! There were over 250 contestants, 25 semi-finalists, 5 finalists, and now just little ol' me. There were great, brilliant comics, and there were comics who went up for the first time on a lark, and there were every kind of comics in between. I watched every one of the semifinalists (with the exception of who went up my night while I was hyperventilating in the back) and they were all very, very good.
I had a great set for the semifinals, and when I won my night, and when I found out I was in fact moving on to the finals, I remember thinking "if I can have a set just as good as my semifinal one, I'll be happy". Well, I did, and it was, and I am! (but not in that order)
My friend Ed filmed my set (thanks Ed!) and I'll let you all know when and where it's up. (I'm guessing YouTube)
My thanks to all of you for patiently putting up with me during my stretch of insanity through the semi's and the finals. Thanks for the kind words, the pats on the back, the advice (I'll never forget - "Be funny!")
Now, please stop asking me "What's next?"
Because I don't know.
I know I'm going to keep doing this, and going to the open mics and writing more and getting as much stage time as I possibly can. The truth of the matter is, as much as this has been a goal of mine, and I've focused a lot of time and energy into getting there (and by 'there' I mean 'here'), this isn't the end. This is a beginning. (cue the music from the band 'Chicago')
Thanks all
Rick
