I have a lot of friends on my myspace, that I love very much, and They are currently, or have in the past served our country. This is in no way meant to be directed towards our military as a whole, this is, specifically for anyone who has abused their powers as an officer to do things that are illegal. Also, this is not meant to be an "I hate America" post. I don't hate america, in fact, I love it so much I am going out of my way to exercise my right as an american citizen to speak how I feel about whatever I want. Something a lot of you are too scared, or ignorant to do. "You" meaning the American populace as a whole. I do not claim to be smarter than anyone else, nor do I claim to know more about any of this than the next average person. These are all just my personal feelings at this moment in time. If this offends anyone, I apologize.

So we have the strongest and the best military in the world. (I personally feel China has the upper hand there) Our military is so sophisticated, and so smart, and has the best technology and intelligence, that we just can't make mistakes right? I mean billions upon billions of dollars are being constantly pumped into our war, our occupancy. Then why is it that we find countless stories of Americans using cluster bombs outside hospitals, shooting civilians, taking advantage of the fact that they are "The American Army" the best in the world!

At one point does being born on one side of the world, give you the right to travel to another part of the world and freely shoot people, or do what you will? It doesn't. There is no reason, there is no logic, and there is no right, to do such a thing. I don't know where these soldiers got the idea that they can do such things? (Maybe because in the marines they completely strip away and identity you once had, only to forge their own idealistic personality for you) It is definatly not the militaries fault as a whole for their "training". Everyone has their own mind, and has the ability to make the decision of right or wrong when it comes down to it.

On a side note, this is where some of you are going to say "You try to go over to another country that you're trying to help, and have them shoot at you. What would you do in a split second decision when bullets are flying? Protect yourself, or shoot back?"

Although being a good point while in the midsts of battle, at what point was the war in Iraq agains the innocent civilians? When did America start getting into gun fights with the everyday Iraqi citizen trying to survive in his home? His home is no longer his anyway, it belongs to the American occupancy. I don't remember President Bush ever speaking about his plans to wage war on the citizens of Iraq, yet they are the ones suffering more than anyone else. You know.... if they are shooting at us... maybe we don't belong there?

At this point in time, where we have gotten ourselves, and that country, in so deep, I feel that just pulling everyone out and leaving Iraq the way it is, is wrong. I personally feel we should have never invaded. And since, and this is a direct quote from more than one person I met while in Texas, "The greatest President in history" decided to invade an almost defenseless country with NO exist stratagy in any way shape or form, we are stuck in this situation that is having a negative impact on America and Iraq. The rest of the world, pretty much HATES America right now.

back to my main point...

I don't know where anyone was trained, or was told, that it is ok to kill civilians in war time. I can't comprehend what kind of sick human being it would take to go out and knowingly slaughter human beings. I don't care if you're a marine, or a mall security guard. There is no excuse to knowingly kill people that have no reason to die. And being Muslim, or having dark skin and a beard, does not make you a terrorist. We're not talking about just men either. There are women and CHILDREN being BLOWN UP and SHOT by MARINES. Let's think about this.... children... being shot... by our "elites". I mean come on... months and possibly years of training to shoot children? They're nothing but a bunch of cowards in uniform. It's just pathetic.

You want to know what a terrorist is? It's a marine who shoots women and children and civilians. Why doesn't Bush arrest the family members of these marines for being related to terrorists? Or does that only apply when it's convenient for America... or when they're of middle eastern decent?

Anyway... Its 5am... this is a rant... its not very well written, and it's not very descriptive. If anyone actually makes it this far in the rant... I'll leave you with this....

"The doctor I spoke with expressed his outrage, "What freedom did America bring us? Freedom of the machine gun? So I am free to take my gun and shoot you?"" - http://blog.newstandardnews.net/iraqdispatches/archives/000211.html

What I don't understand is why when there are far greater tragedies in the world--ones that we (the American people) can actually make a difference in--we are generally more interested in talking about the war in Iraq than focusing on things that we can more easily make a difference in such as growing epidemics of poverty and HIV/AIDS in South Africa or the war in northern Uganda (the longest running war in Africa -almost 20 years?) or abortion in the U.S. -that's happening here in our own neighborhoods. These things have no political gray areas, except for maybe abortion. Why don't these issues make the news?

I think that the way you and I react to these problems of world suffering is the only true reflection of our compassion. Simply saying that these things exist and saying that someone should do something about them is really like saying, "I am aware that people are suffering but my comfort, lifestyle, commitments to friends and family, aspirations, etc are more valuable than their lives." Though awareness must come before action I suppose.

Anyway, I'm not doing anything to help these people aside from an occasional benefit concert here and there. I'm not doing my part. Hopefully I and enough other people will soon conjure up the balls and the compassion to do something significant and recognize their responsibility to help the people in these desperate situations. I say responsibility because I didn't earn my southern Californian comfort and because doing nothing would compromise my integrity.

I propose that you and I cease complaining about the bad people in the world and practice a little introspection on the hard questions. Maybe my passive self-centered lack of action qualifies me as a bad person.

First off your initial disclaimer was a great way to start a late night rant. I agree that there is this preconceived notion that everything (military/ economics/ government) is "the best" here in America, it is our naive predisposition that was force fed to us when we were children in our American History courses. It perhaps makes us feel that since we are the privilaged few "elite" in the world, that we have certain liberties to act the way we do when dealing with other countries (Iraq/Iran/Korea). Hence the problem you addressed of why we are so quick to disregard human lives when they are born "on the other side of the world." I agree there is no right to go and attack those innocent civillians, these Marines of course in their muddled brains find logistical reasoning, casualties for the greater good type thinking. I know there sounds like a "but" coming on... BUT there isn't. I am simply responding with my own affirmations regarding your opinions and how I agree with you. As to the knee jerk response of "bullets flying", who is to say what one will do. It makes me sick that the civillians are being targeted, as well as the Lebanese by the Israelis... when did all this get started? I could expound upon my knowledge of Middle Eastern history and the French and British Mandates after WWI, but I will spare you that rant. I agree, pulling out would be detrimental at this point, so there needs to be more openminded persons working in foreign pollicy/ dealing with peace and confllict resolutions (what I want to get my Master's Degree in). LOL You really met those Texans down there huh? Bush is the greatest president? Not bloody likely... Yeah that is why we left TN ASAP. I can't stand that type of obtuse thinking.  I agree with all your rants about everything. Continue sharing man, who knows maybe somoeone will listen...

Cheers

Lis
