Apologies for having to walk off during 'rolling people' at the o2. Nothing particularly dramatic, though it was fucking weird. I think a combination of dehydration and over-exerting due to being so hyped up and over gripping the neck (18,000 potentially hostile 1:Urban Hymns fans not really wanting the early stuff, and 2:early stuff fans not really wanting the UH stuff does induce 'fight or flight' syndrome, try it sometime) caused my forefinger to completely lock, and I mean lock, into a claw shape with cramp. Couldn't tell what was happening at first but I couldn't unclamp from the guitar neck. Had to stretch my finger with my right hand, shook it out, carried on- same thing a minute later. The third time not only my finger went but my whole forearm and palm curled up in spasm- only then did it dawn that I had cramp, bit thick, I know. It felt like getting a massive electric shock- not pleasant, and fucking embarassing when you're in the middle of blasting out guitar to a packed millenium dome.
Got shuttled out to the medics, adrenaline levels through the roof and babbling- they told me to shut up and stop pacing about I think, nice eh, and was given a big blast of ralgex, a stretch and a bottle of water.
What I tried to say on the mic was "sorry, bit of cramp, drink lots of water everyone eh", not much of a public speaker am I.

Just glad you were alright, Nick. Just too bad it didn't happen during Lucky Man as opposed to RP. ;-)

Have a good rest of the tour

Dont worry about it Nick. I use to have the same problem playing bass. My hand would just lock up and spasm, it freaked the shit out of me the first time it happened.

Sounds fucking gay, but before you go on stage next time, do a 5 - 10 minute warmup stretching your fingers, thumbs, wrists and fore arms. It worked for me. Cod liver oil also helps.

And as for the gig, it was fucking amazing and i saw you both nights at the roundhouse too! Right at the fucking front, singing my fucking heart out to every song!... at all 3 london nights!

Fucking come on!!

Its a shame about the fans being divided when the whole point of the gigs is bringing Verve fans together. I hope i never get "claw hand". sounds nasty!

Nick, strange gig, nice to fill a place like that but horrible to see what a big album does, plenty of people only into UH. I loved it all the same, you guys are a great band, cannot wait to hear the new album sometime next year, good luck with that. Since the Roundhouse gig i just haven't stopped watching all the old footage on YOUTUBE from 1993 onwards. I am 34 and newly inspired to get some guys together to start jamming/playing again, its been a while but have never stopped playing... Steven

Son-of-a-gun, that is bad timing! I hope you feel/get better, at least all the fans get to hear your side of the story. I'm just glad that everything is okay with you and the band. You'll be back to rock the world with them, aye? Woo-hoo, enjoy your break among you and lads teasing Mr. A., over his new hairdo. ;)

Sorry to hear about that, well all that worrying about those two "hostile fan camps" would send anyone paranoid - forget about them, go on and enjoy YOURSELF, that's the main thing!
Keep up the good work!

That's fuckin' rock and roll!
I wish I were on your side of the world to witness in person. :(
Instead, I'll have to be content with sitting in the Japanese countryside, listening to ancient bootlegs of "Where the Geese Go."

Cheers!

Sorry to hear what happened.

Gutted that I didn't manage to get down to the O2 thanks to my car breaking down on the way there. Instead of watching you guys, I was watching the road waiting for the breakdown truck to arrive. Still the pasties at BP garages aren't all bad and there's numerous uses for a pair of unused tickets.

Just glad I saw you on the final night at the Roundhouse which has got to be one of the best Verve gigs I've ever seen.

Merry Xmas to you, your family and the rest of the lads. Have a good one.

I'm very glad I had the chance to see you again on stage on last thursday.
Listening to you was so exciting, even if it took a long journey from Naples to London, but London is like a second hometown for me. :-)
I can't help telling you I was very frightened when I saw you had got hurt. I couldn't move and I did nothing but gazing at you... I began to feel worried... I thought you had been cut by something or something like that... While Richard was singing The drugs dont work, i just couldn't do or think anything else. I was in another world.

But when I saw you coming back on stage I screamed as loud as I could and clapped my hands. It was a relief when I realized you felt well!
Don't worry for that cramp you had, those kind of things just happen ;-)

See you next time! Everytime I see you gigs I have a wonderful time ;-)

*LoVe*,

Rosalba

Great to know everything is OK.
I am old time fan who loves everything coming from your instruments and voice...
The show at the O2 was great, despite the troubles, Glasgow yesterday was even better.
Now I'm back home in Milan, hoping to see you soon again in Italy.
