Feb.14, 2008... The fourth shooting at a school in less than a weeks time... And instead of being somewhere far away, it is in our own backyard this time... Northern Illinois University... A gunman opened fire during a geology class in Cole Hall at NIU's DeKalb campus, killing five students, and wounding an addition 14 or so (the numbers change every hour it seems). The gunman then took his own life. Now, I have several friends that go to NIU... and thank god, they are all fine... But a friend of mine has yet to hear from his buddy, who is in fact a geology major, and very well could have been there... Now, those who know me best know I rarely pray, but I am praying his friend has this same cold I have right now, and was forced to stay in the dorm... or be a delinquent student and skip class... Either way, my prayers are with the Huskies at this time... what's worse, the psychos at the westboro baptist church have released a statement saying they will picket outside the vigils and funerals. They are the low-lives claiming to be Christians that protest outside the funerals of solders killed in Iraq... why can't the bullets ever fly where they need to? Why do innocent people have to die when there are evil people in this world; one's that would cause the grieving so much more pain? It isn't right... None of this is right at all... Five people, gone from our world, and the truth is my concern is not for them, but for the survivors... Yes, it hurts the families of those who have been killed... But the survivors have it even worse... their scars will not heal for many years to come

The total count so far is 7...... including Gunman, I can't believe this happened so close to us.

What the hell are they gonna protest about at a funeral??!! Sam and I were talking about these kinds of incidents, and the misguided reasonings. Something is always the trigger, even if it's unclear. The decision to act out this way, is always wrong. If people were taught to cope with life's disappointments, this would not happen nearly as often. I will pray for your friend's friend, and all the other survivors. I will pray for peace to help the grieving family and friends of those lost. I will also pray that the Baptist all get the flu and can't cause more injury to the people who just want to grieve in peace. I understand survival, and I will pray double hard for their scars to be dealt with, never forgotten, and to find peace with both.
