Hello again Peter. Unfortunately our request to license the Flying Burrito Bros. was denied. I felt Emmylou was a bit too country and not rock enough.

love crosby stills and nash but i think that the song "daylight again" should be in here. that song is vivid about vietnam. and can be the perfect message for today. overall the list of these songs are hands down the best. not being from this time period i am glad. that i had a chance to grow up with this music.

Thin Lizzy isn't Folk.. At least I don't think. But still great band.. and there are some great singles on here. Good for you. When I thought "folk" I thought Nick Drake. :)

Hi Meagan,

Thanks for your question. You're right, Thin Lizzy isn't folk, but neither is this box set. This is about folk ROCK, and the Thin Lizzy track, along with Traffic doing "John Barleycorn," is an example of a rock band doing a folk song, thus making it -- folk rock.

Cheers,
Ted Myers

P.S. If you want all folk, check out my first box set compilation, Washington Square Memoirs: The Great Urban Folk Boom (1950-1970) (Rhino, 2001).

I'm THRILLED to see the inclusion of Thin Lizzy! What an underrated band and a nicer bunch of guys you couldn't meet. I interviewed them when I was starting out as a rock writer in 1977 and they were lovely to me at a time when it wasn't easy to be a female in that business.

They were extremely proud of their Irish heritage and did that and other Irish themed songs proud.

Hi Pattie,

While Melanie was a terrific singer-songwriter of the '70s, like Elton John and Carole King, I did not feel she was especially folk-influenced. Thanks for your question.

Where is Gram Parsons? Where's Emmylou? Where's Zevon? Where's Waits??? Where's Neil? Where's BRUUUUCE???
Linda does "Love Has No Pride" better than ANYONE. MAJOR BAD! Are you sure that's not a typo?
Still, some great choices...except for track seventeen, of course. Try "The Derelict" by the other Fleetwood Mac, it has a banjo AND a harmonica.

Hi Jeannie,

Some of these, like the recurring Neil Young question and the Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris questions, I answered above. Warren Zevon was on the list, but we ultimately did not have room to include him. Sorry. Bruce Springsteen is not available to license for compilations. I guess you can second guess my track choices all day long, and I'm sure all your suggestions are valid. I just went for the tracks I thought would best represent the combination of folk and rock influences. Thanks for your questions.

Cheers.
