In the old days back in The Nederlands, the subculture of mixed Dutch-Indonesians or The Polynesian Moluccans and The Indonesian Eurasians, had an impact on music scene in Dutch and Germany during the years 1958 - 1965.
They constituted the "Indo-Rock" movement with prominent groups like The Tielman Brothers, Electric Johnny and The Sky Rockets, The Black Dynamites, The Crazy Rockers, Oety & his Real Rockers, The Javalins, The Hap-Cats and many more.
      
      Ternyata musisi asal Indonesia, terutama keturunan Belanda dan Maluku, pernah merajai dunia musik di Belanda dan Jerman jauh sebelum The Beatles belajar main gitar.
Setelah kemerdekaan Indonesia, mereka pergi ke Belanda dengan membawa kecintaan mereka terhadap gitar dan musik Kroncong, Hawaiian serta Rock and Roll yang mereka serap dari radio Amerika.







      The very first Indo bands The (Real) Room Rockers (1957 - since 1959 The Hurricane Rollers), The Hot Jumpers (1958), The Bell Boys (later: The Black Dynamites) and The Rhythm Stars all originated from The Hague.
At the same time it happened in Rotterdam with Oety & his Real Rockers, Electric Johnny & The Skyrockets, The Rocking Diamonds and The Blue Eagles.
Also in Amsterdam, Groningen, Zaandam, Maastricht and other towns you could find a scene of Indorock groups.
They played on stage a mix of rock & roll, c&w, evergreens, Hawaiian- and Indonesian folksongs and also the well-known instrumentals of that period. With the instrumental stuff they were at their best.
     
      Ciri ciri dari Indo Rock band adalah pemakaian 3 gitaris, 1 untuk rhythm dan 2 lead gitar bersahut sahutan. Kebanyakan mereka dipengaruhi oleh musik dari Sang Legendaris Les Paul atau kemudian The Ventures.
Mulanya mereka memakai gitar akustik yang diberi electric pick-up, kemudian setelah itu mereka sangat suka membeli gitar dan bass Jerman merek Hofner.
Paul McCartney pertama melihat Bass berbentuk Violin dari group group Indo Rock yang manggung di Hamburg saat itu.
Karir mereka berawal dari club club di Jerman yang memberikan bayaran jauh dari yang mereka dapatkan di Belanda, hal itu membuat mereka menjadi pemilik dari gitar gitar Gibson Les Paul yang baru di import ke Belanda di tahun 1958.
      
       In 1957 came the Tielman Brothers to the Netherlands. Andy Tielman and his brothers Reggy, Ponthon and Loulou played already together in Indonesia as The Timor Rhythm Brothers.
In Breda they started as The Four T's. They secured a job at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair in the "Hawaiian Village" section of the Dutch pavilion.
Hired to play for only fifteen minutes when the Hawaiian band took their break, the Four Tielman Brothers stole the show with their wild rock'n'roll songs and acrobatic antics.
They tossed guitars across stage, played the guitar and the bass with their toes and teeth, and played their instruments behind their heads and upside down.







       Dari semua band Indo-Rock, The Tielmans Brothers dengan sang gitaris Andy Tielman yang menjadi idola saat itu.
Permainan gitar yang lincah dengan gaya yang super heboh, 20 tahun mendahului Jimi Hendrix dalam bermain gitar memakai gigi, dibelakang kepala, memakai kaki serta bermain terbalik.
Bukan cuma itu, inovasi yang dia temukan seperti modifikasi Gitarnya menjadi 10 strings membuat Perusahan Gitar Fender mengirim orangnya ke Jerman untuk meneliti gitarnya Andy Tielman.
Hasilnya adalah sebuah gitar Fender Jazz master khusus berwarna Biru Tua Metalik dengan head stock yang berisi 10 buah tuning pegs.
     
       Di bawah Ini adalah tuning dari Andy Tielman dengan gitar 10 strings-nya, dia menyetem gitarnya Low D atau dua step kebawah. Jadi 50 tahun sebelum KORN main Low Tuning.

       Mengapa Andy Tielman tidak memakai gitar 12 strings yang ada saat itu seperti merk Ricken Backer, jawabannya adalah dengan string 1 dan 6 yang tidak di double membuat musik mereka lebih ketat.
Musiknya Tielmans Brothers adalah super ketat, itu yang menjadi keistimewaan mereka.
Juga sampai saat ini belum ada band di dunia manapun selain Miles Davis yang memakai Dua Pemain Bass sekaligus seperti Tielmans Brothers yang memakai 2 Fender VI bass.
Masing masing memakai ukuran string yang berbeda serta setting ampli yang juga berbeda.

       Dipanggung Andy Tielmans memakai beberapa ampli Fender Bassman dan Showman sekaligus dan juga memakai line-in di mixer membuat sound gitarnya tebal dan menyebar.
Hal ini merupakan inovasi disaat itu.

    1959 Indo-Rock Bands started to Rock the first Dutch "Instro" recordings.
Lead guitarist Rob Boekholt (ex- Hap Cats) and the group The Hurricane Rollers from The Hague made the first instrumental Indo-Rock recordings in the Summer of 1959 for the Philips label.
His own composition "Once" was build around a very strong original melody and his trademark were the rolling notes.
On the b-side a real drivin' number Hurricane Rock. Rob used an Egmond Caledonia guitar during the session.

     Guitarist/sax player Harry Koster and his Indo band The Black Dynamites recorded their rocker "Ready To Rock" with an almost American sound for the Delahay label. 
Just before The Shadows and The Ventures changed the instrumental scene completely, the now classic record Black Eyes Rock c/w Johnny On His Strings was recorded by Electric Johnny & his Skyrockets (CNR) and also released in the US (Felsted), UK (London) and Sweden (Sonet).

The same can be said of the first Tielman Brothers instro productions "Black Eyes", "18th Century Rock" (Mozart!) and "A.A.A". ( = Big Guitar) all recorded and released on the Imperial label in 1960.

Some of the best Dutch rock instrumentals were recorded by Indo-Rock bands in the Netherlands and Germany in the periode 1959-1964, but in 1965 is was all over for the Indo-Rock, because the bands were swept away and suffered most by the uprising beat-explosion.

      The Tielmans Brothers sekelompok bersaudara imigran dari Indonesia Maluku di tahun 1960 telah memilik 3 album yang di release di seluruh dunia termasuk Amerika, Inggris dan Eropa. Musik mereka dianggap Musik Rock and Roll yang terbaik di Belanda dan Jerman saat itu, tetapi pada 1965 Indo-Rock di geser oleh kepopuleran British Invasion.
