BANDS SELECTED FOR THIRD TASTE OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY Regional acts represent diverse mix of music for every taste Crawfordsville, Indiana, June 1, 2009—The Taste of Montgomery County is returning to the General Lew Wallace Study and Museum for a third year, and again the variety of live music will be as sweet and diverse as the food. The Taste, which takes place this year on August 29 from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m., features an eclectic mix of music from three of the region’s most entertaining groups. The Museum returns to its bluegrass roots with 2009’s first performers, the Taste Committee announced today. The Woodstove Flapjacks, an acoustic string band based out of Lafayette, will take the Taste stage from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The Flapjacks honor the musical heritage of old-time string bands from the Ohio River valley with a strong base of dobro, washtub bass, guitar, fiddle and banjo, interspersed with washboard percussion, harmonica, mandolin, even kazoo. Their new album, “The Right Kind of Dirty,” was released earlier this year. The joint will be jumpin’ from 4:30-6:30 p.m. as The Big Swing Band takes the Taste stage. One of the area’s best loved big bands for over ten years, The Big Swing Band from Lafayette plays tunes that hearken back to the ‘30s and ‘40s, with songs perfect for dances such as the lindy hop, tango, rumba and foxtrot. The band will also be livening up the Jazz Stage at the Taste of Tippecanoe later this month. The Gordon Bonham Blues Band brings a riotous finale to the Taste’s festivities, bringing soulful blues to the stage from 8:00-10:00 p.m. Bonham, a widely-lauded staple in the Indy blues scene, has played with such greats as Bo Diddley and B.B. King as well as the supergroup Soul Bus with Jes Richmond and one of the favorites of last year’s Taste, Tad Robinson. Bonham, a Wabash College grad, along with drummer Jeff Chapin, bassist Dave Wyatt, and Tom Harold on harmonica and vocals, have played The Slippery Noodle Inn, Daddy Jack’s, and the Rathskeller in Indianapolis. Tickets for the Taste of Montgomery County, which includes sumptuous samples of some of the area’s finest cuisine as well as attendance to all three shows, will be $4 in advance and $5 at the gate on August 29. Advance tickets will be available at the General Lew Wallace Study and Museum, the Montgomery County Visitors and Convention Bureau and select downtown locations starting August 1. The Taste Committee is now accepting applications for food vendors for this year’s Taste. Vendor instructions and applications are available for download on the Taste website, www.tasteofmontgomerycounty.com.
