Q:
Alrighty for the record who am i doing this interview with? 'Also as
i'm preparing our interview, how about you tell me a little about your
home town Netherlands , 'An what's it like there? 'An what is the best
known food to eat in there?
A: My name is Terry, lead singer for
Terry Bogus. We’re from the Eastern part of The Netherlands, near the
German border. Nowadays we eat food from all over the world here, which
got mixed up with Dutch food. Best known food? Patat met frikandellen.
Is it any good? Well…
Sissy Speaks: Okay Terry Bogus as
always i tell people haha try to bare with me hahaha as i'm going to
ask you questions so others can get to know you more an i'm going to
ask you questions i feel fans would want to know, so altogether haha
i'm going to go in circles with you, an pardon me if i make you dizzy
haha but don't worry cause i'll be dizzy right along with you hahaha:)
Q: What made you decide to do this interview with me? 'An at some point may i do a live interview with you?
A:
Since the list of Questions was sooo long, I thought it would be best
to lift some of the curtain up for you, let you have a glimpse into our
world. Yeah, live interview…bring it on!
Q: Is there anyway you could send me a CD an a Video of one of your shows, which would be so totally amazing:)?
A:
Most of our video material is online, it’s there for everyone to see.
We post everything worth posting. Keep an eye out for future stuff,
there’s more to come…
Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself for others to get to know you more?
A: I see myself as a musical explorer, try to stretch the boundaries with lyrics and music.
Q: For the record what is the name of your band?
A: Terry Bogus
Q: Who thought of the bands name an why?
A:
The band name came naturally. We had this song called Candy smile, a
girl identified with the lyric, so she was named Candy. She started
calling me Terry, like the guy in the Candy Candy series. Later, Bogus
was added since it is all made up. Basically, I am introducing myself
as Terry, immediately telling I am not… got it?
Sissy Speaks: Hmm dont get it yet haha but i will eventually:)
Q: Who all is in your band? 'An what instruments do each play?
A:
Maus is the guitar player, Pete does the keys, Munchkin hits the drums
and Zed does the bass. For me, I do lead vocals, supported by the
voices of the other guys.
Q: Where are you/or the band originally from?
A: The Netherlands
Q: Do you have a bandwebsite?
A: www. terrybogus. com
Q: Do you have a Banner?
A: Sure, we have to put one up on the site, though. It’ll be on our myspace page too.
Q: Do you have a booking contact?
A: Yeah, you’ll find on our homepage.
Sissy Speaks:
Okay Terry now you mention that you despise McMusic, but i like music
to be more sophisticated than just a tumbling increase of my Swiss Bank
account, 'Okay can you please explain this to me more clearly so i
understand what you mean?
A: McMusic simply means that music is
chewed three times before it reaches the ears of the listeners. Music
shouldn’t be a fastfood product like so many music has become. I truly
believe music should be challenging and inspiring. Try looking for
those nowadays, it’s pretty sad most of the time.
Q: How would you categorize your band or music? (Hard rock, metal, rock, pop, death metal, punk)
A:
From time to time we fit in all mentioned categories. Life itself isn’t
just one emotion or category. Music shouldn’t be either.
Q: Now what made you get into the music business? 'An when did you start?
A:
Music is my eternal freedom, to do whatever I want. Once I got a taste
of that, it became addictive. I started at the age of thirteen.
Q: Okay now how did your band become a band? 'An how did you become an artist?
A:
You become a band automatically when you have a chemistry with some
other people, who want the same thing as yourself. I think becoming an
‘’artist’’ would be the amount of chemistry you have with the music
itself and the emotions it brings with it.
Sissy Speaks: I
hope everyone watches Terry's video which Terry sings a song called
'Love Like Blood' 'And Terry's video is very amazing an Terry did a
amazing job at making his video. 'I trully enjoyed watching Terry Live
:)
Q: Was it or has it ever been stressful through it all with the music business?
A:
Not really, if I look back there were some things we could have done
better, or made other decisions about things...so we've learned a lot,
but most of the time it was fun and we really enjoyed the things we
went through.
Q: What makes your music different from others?
A:
We don’t pretend to be original. We just have our own personalities and
influences to form the music with. You could call that unique or
original if you will.
Q: Now
this is very important not only for you, but your fans 'Do you video
tape your shows where people can purchase them on your page in case
others that can’t make it to your shows can order a video to see you
guys play?
A: We have some videos on Youtube and Fabchannel, but we
don’t always record it. We did two concerts by online streaming, which
allowed people from allover the globe to watch it. It was a weird idea
that people from Japan to the USA were watching us play…
Q:
Another very important question i really find important not only for
you, but your fans, 'Now do you have a P.O Box for fans to write you?
A: They could leave a message at www. terrybogus. com or www. myspace. com/terrybogus if they want to get in touch.
Q: Would you ever like any of your songs played on movies, series, ect?
A:
Yes, of course. And it will perfectly fit, because we have some pretty
cinematic music anyway. Movies fitsTerry Bogus like a glove.
Q: When performing, do you hang out with your fans before or after or both?
A:
As musicians you got a lot of time between arrival at the location,
soundcheck and concert. So the answer is both, but we prefer to hang
out with the fans during our shows ;-)
Q: Have you been interviewed from any magazine companies or ect '?
A:
We have had reviews and interviews by (online) magazines and
newspapers. A few of them can be found on our website or Myspace.
Q: Is or has any of your music being or been played on any radio stations?
A:
Yes.Our first single Candy Smile has been played on several (online)
radio stations. We have had a couple of live performances on National
Dutch radio station 3FM.
Q:
Okay i been asking people this question cause i'm very curious 'So when
you started your career was this something you wanted to do or your
parents wanted you do?
A: I started my musical career at the age of
thirteen screaming without an amplifier over a thick wall of sounds,
which was created by my buddies. It felt great! My parents had some
difficulties understanding their sons new hobby, but they let me….
Q: Are you the only talented one in your family?
A: Talented in music? Yeah. I guess it was a matter of interest. They have their things, I choose to explore music.
Q: Do you travel alot? 'An if so whats that like? 'An where all do you go?
A:
When we have gigs, we travel a lot. Before short, we played in The
Netherlands, Belgium and Germany only. Last july we travelled over to
the UK to do a tour,as absolutely one big adventure with colorful
people along the way!
It is fatigueing, but very satisfaying J
Q: Would you consider playing at birthday parties, gradruation parties, ect?
A: Only if we can do our playback karaoke act and the band doesn’t have to show up..
Q: What is the biggest crowd you /or the band have ever played for?
A: Ehm must have been around 5000 people
Q: So what is your favorite song either that you performed or you like from your albums?
A:
Oomphh!! That’s like choosing between your own children! Besides that,
all songs have a different feel to them, so it kinda depends on the
mood…
Q: So what can people expect to see at one of your shows that have never seen a show of yours before?
A:
Usually it’s easy to recognize people who haven’t seen us before.
Somehow we get people staring at us with a creepy look in their eyes…
lol Nah, they get to see a theatric burst of energy. Shapes and sounds
that take you to all different directions. It’s a hell of a ride!
Q: Is this your only career or do you do other things?
A: We all ( still ) have day-jobs.
Q: Do you think myspace is really a great place to help undiscovered musicians an solo artists?
A:
We have a lot of response through Myspace. It is more direct than a
normal page. It sure is a good thing, but there are so many bands out
there…it’s an overkill. You’ll see the bands who get the most exposure
are the largest bands anyway.
Q: What are your music goals?
A: Make great music, meet new people, see new places. I wouldn’t miss it for the world!
Q:
What’s one thing you would suggest you need if you want to be in music
business? 'An what advice would you give others out there trying to
make it in the music world?
A: Be creative! It’s not bad to have
obvious influences, but you gotta do your own thing with it. Too many
bands do the same thing, it’s a shame and a waste of time and energy to
do the same thing over and over again. Try new things, don’t be afraid
to be experimental! And be aware of the creepy guys in the bizz
Q: Was music your passion since you were young?
A: O Yeah, I’ve been hooked on music for as long as I can remember.
Q: Are there any new artists out there you'd like or recommend to people?
A: Yes.. Terry Bogus
Q: Who is the one band you'd totally love to tour with?
A: Mr. Bungle, Strapping Young Lad, The Beatles, Pantera, David Bowie, Primus, Goldfrapp and many many more J
Q:
Have you ever played in any of the 2000's Warp tours? 'An would you
want to ever get a chance to play in the Warp tours in the future?
A:
Well since they are US based tours we haven’t played them yet. And sure
we want to perform in one of the upcoming version, it’ll will be great
to get a larger audience!
Q: What do you think of the major record labels nowadays? 'Do you prefer independent or major? 'And why?
A:
Major labels tend, as many large companies, to react slow to newer
trends and developments. You could see that over thelast decade very
well with the upcoming of online distributions and sharing. They’ll
adjust eventually, but then a new thing will arrive and it’ll be all
the same all over again. Indie labels are much more into what’s new but
have fewer abilities to support an artist to world domination ;-) .
There are pros and cons with both depending on where you are in your
development as a band.
Q: Where do you see the band or yourself in the next hmm five years?
A:
There are so many places we have yet to see, so many songs we have yet
to record, we will be busy for the next few decades to do all we want
to do. A lot can happen in five years, and frankly, I don’t want to
know what the future has in store for me/us. It would spoil the
surprise…
Or we will be the new owner of the McMusic franchise.
Q: How would you describe your music to others who hasn't ever heard your music?
A:
You will experience all sorts of things and sounds, different emotions
and characters. Our music is a path, like life itself.
Q: Do you think your band/music can make a difference in the music scene? 'An if so how?
A:
Everyone doing anything is making a difference. Either good or bad. The
bigger you get as a band, the more we learn along the way, will
increase the impact of the changes we are making.
Q: What is so different about your band that would make people want to listen to your music?
A:
We don’t see ourselves as too different, perhaps the way we do our
things might not be the way everyone else would do it. We keep an open
mind, when it comes to music. Anything is possible, and we are not
afraid to jump into deep water. People who are not afraid and have an
open mind will find us eventually.
Q: Favorite aspect of being a musician?
A: Playing live and making new songs!
Q: What's your greatest accomplishment?
A: We’ll get back to you in about 50 years, then we’ll be able to tell you .
Q: Hobbies an other interests besides music?
A: Movies, gaming, chilling.
Q: Your most prized possession is?
A: My memories.
Q: If there was one person in history dead or alive you could meet who would it be? 'An why?
A: The PR guy who made Jesus Christ famous, he deserves a fucking medal!
Q: If there as one musician or band dead or alive you could meet who would it be 'An why?
A: Michael Allen Patton, I want to tell him I am so sorry. lol
Q: Do you think any band should give it up an call it a day? 'If so, why?
A: Aw, that list would be way to long to mention here….
Q: What do you think of the local music scene nowadays?
A:
It’s a dead scene. Perhaps that’s for the best. No wonder people don’t
go to see bands anymore, when everyone is still playing the same shit
over and over again. McMusic to the max
Sissy Speaks: As i
tell most people, in this type of business, i've learned that when
people have so many friends, fans on their page, it really is alot
easier if you leave them a comment so then the one your leaving a
comment for can find you an respond to you alot faster, an always
remember, just cause someone doesn't get right back at you, doesn't mean
they have forgotton you.
Q: I noticed you have over 3910 fans an friends on your page, now how the heck do you keep in touch with everyone?
A: By bulletins, the blog.A lot of time goes into answering mails , it’s fun to do!
Q: On a daily basis about how many private messages do you recieve in your inbox?
A: Keeping out the dirty ones, about twenty a day. They go from simple questions to requests to perform in people’s area’s.
Q: Ha Ha Ha, alot of your fans probably want to know where do you hang out the most huh huh:)? 'wink wink' :)
A: Hmmm, you think? lol
Q: Ha Ha What is the weirdest an funniest an sweetest an worst things a fan or fans has done:)?
A:
Oeh! That was probably all during one gig in Belgium. I got squeezed in
the nuts by a girl while I was standing on a fence in front of the
crowd. They offered me a piece of cake which I ate during singing. More
than half the crowd sang a song to us that we were fucking cheese
heads. The sweetest thing was during a gig in the UK, where the guitar
player of the support act took of his shirt, to clean Maus his effects
of spilled beer. At that same gig a guy tried to French kiss me, but he
lost his appetite when he found out I was drooling allover him…
Q: What's one question that you get totally tired of people asking you? 'Be Honest:)
A: The usual geartalk. ‘’What amp you use?’’, "Is that a Yadayada drumkit?’’ and such.
Q:
I been asking others that i interview just to see what hmm others
think. 'Now what do you think about these tremdous high gas prices
right now? 'An how do you think they are getting away with it all 'An
what are the gas prices right now in your town ?
A: Over here in the
Netherlands gasprizes have always been tremendous, at least double or
triple as they are in the U.S.A. On top of that, at least half of the
prize are taxes , and the other half almost is only for the gas
companies. Retailers almost don’t earn a bloody buck of what they sell.
Besides that, the whole environment attention is a joke, since the oil
companies have no intention to actually support clean driving or reduce
oil consumption as long they make big busk out of it. I stopped giving
a damn long ago, they won’t stop until there is no more money to
squeeze out of it. The sooner we run out of gas and oil, the faster we
can start a new and cleaner world.
And even then, the oil companies will make sure they earn lot’s of money on the new technologies used anyway.
Q: What do you think your fans admire the most about you, 'An what do you admire the most about your fans?
A:
People love the way we are making music, and I love them back for
embracing our music. They keep the engine running, they fuel us to the
brim with love an support!
Q: What would you like to say to all your fans and friends an family?
A: Hail Satan!
Q: Any last words to me:)?
A:
Thanks for having us! If you ever plan to visit our country, you are
more than welcome to join our shows and we’ll have drink! Cheerz Sissy!
Q: Before we end,is there anything you'd like to add that i didn't already mention?
A: Coffee is good!
