ABOUT THE WALK

  • That's right... for all you couples whose love lasted into the afterlife and back... for all you undead singles looking to share your heart (or that extra brain you've been carrying around)... or just for people who are waiting for the next zombiewalk... ZombieWalk:SanDiego is holding a zombiewalk on Saturday, February 14th, 2009!

  • This is a Valentine's Day walk, so be creative with your costume! Zombie cupids? Zombies in love? Zombie brides and grooms? Zombies who overdosed on candy hearts? Chocolate covered zombies? It's all possible! BE CREATIVE! If you need zombie makeup, go to Gypsy Treasure, in La Mesa, and mention the walk. They love us there and will hook you up! :D

  • We will be meeting at Pantoja Park between 5:45PM and 6:00PM and then leaving shortly after 6:00PM. Pantoja Park is located on G Street, between Kettner & State, in downtown San Diego.

  • There is ample street and lot parking in the nearby vicinity. Please park as close to Pantoja Park as you can. If you are traveling by public transit, Pantoja Park is a very short block away from the Seaport Village Trolley Station (Orange Line).

  • The walk route will be between 1 and 2 miles long. It is not pre-planned, but we have a general idea of where we will be headed.

  • This is an ALL-AGES walk. As always, this is a family event. We always welcome children and non-adults. As long as you're undead and willing to lurch with us, you are welcome to join!

  • If you ARE under 18, please try to bring a parent/guardian with you - or at least make sure that your parents know where you are and what you're doing.

  • Please bring picture identification, just in case we have to prove that we're not actually undead. Don't want any live burials... that would kinda suck... and you'll need it if you want to drink afterward.

  • We will be UNABLE to help with makeup... SHOW UP IN COSTUME AND MAKEUP. We only have a short time between meeting and walking.

  • Pictures & video? As long as your friends & family don't stop our group at any time and don't get in our way or block the flow of regular foot/vehicle traffic, they are welcome to take pictures & video. By participating in the walk, you acknowledge that your face and/or likeness may end up posted all over the internets and elsewhere and that you're cool with it.

WALK GUIDELINES

We know this sounds like a bunch of buzzkill rules, but we're looking out for YOUR best interest and the best interest of the group in general. We want to continue holding walks - becuase they're FUN! - so these are the guidelines that we ask be followed. The walks have had the same guidelines since we started in San Diego and they are very similar to the guidelines of walks held around the world.

  • We ask that you NOT drink before the walk, due to drunk-in-public laws. Also, please follow all regular laws of the City of San Diego and State of California, as well as our standard zombiewalk guidelines. If you show up under the influence, you'll be asked to leave immediately. We ask this for your safety and the safety of others.

  • There WILL be younger children joining us on the walk. Please refrain from using language that may be offensive to them, their parents, and the general public. We ask that you adhere to this out of common courtesy and to refrain from giving the public a negative image of the group.

  • NO WEAPONS WHATSOEVER. No fake ones, no real ones, no imaginary invisible ones. You will be asked to put them back in your car or get rid of them immediately.

  • Please do NOT bring extra blood or supplies with you. If you make a mess, you are legally responsible for it and you will give the walk a bad reputation - not cool.

  • Keep your blood ON YOUR CLOTHING AND BODY, if you intentionally or unintentionally leave it somewhere else, it can be considered vandalism. You don't want that ticket.

  • Zombies shuffle and lurch slowly. Zombies don't have/use cell phones. Zombies don't talk or scream or shriek or howl - they moan or grunt.

  • Don't approach or touch anyone not associated with the walk. Keep your hands and feet inside the vehic... keep 'em to yourself and out of people's faces (do not to reach out at members of the public as we pass them... this is legally considered threatening behavior).

  • Please - for your sake and ours - do NOT lean over barriers/fences, do NOT enter shops, stay out of Horton Plaza (they will make you leave anyway), do NOT lean into doorways/entryways, do NOT pound on/touch windows. These are all borderline illegal behaviors. If law enforcement sees you doing it, they may ticket or arrest you. If they don't see you, retailers and restaraunteurs may lobby to ban zombiewalks because you're annoying them and their customers. So just don't do it.

  • OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS & SIGNS! Do not block foot or auto traffic! Again, tickets suck!

TRALLT

Wow I wish I could be there. That is amazing. I'm in MA so I do the Northampton crawl in October. I hope it's okay to self promote here, but I thought it fit with your theme. I made zombie valentines to promote to upcoming zombie-themed web comic. You can send them over the internet.
Here is the link: http://pub15. bravenet. com/postcard/post. php?usernum=1264244665

*Also, if any Valentine's Day zombie wants to be immortalized in my web comic, friend me and send me a picture.
: ) My comic takes place on Valentine's Day so I would LOVE some zombie references!

Good luck and eat lots of brains!

The Valentine's Day walk has already past, but it was just for fun. Most of our walks are for charity - our next walk will be in conjunction with an event we're holding during Comic-Con (outside of the actual convention) that will be raising funds for cystic fibrosis research. Our walk in October will be collecting food for San Diego Food Bank (as we have done for the past two years), and our walk in December collects toys to donate to Toys For Tots (as we have done for the past two years).

so how do you raise the money/food/toys? are they required to participate? i know most walks have you raise money by pledges...

Zombiewalks are not like breast cancer or AIDS walks. Please look up zombiewalk on Wikipedia for more information. Most cities don't do their walks for charity, only for fun.

As far as other circumstances, please read past blogs for more details on how each situation has been handled. We don't have sponsors or pledges. We have not collected money in the past, but details of the fundraising at the cystic fibrosis event will be given closer to that time - and that will be a unique situation.
