After eleven years of turning his back on reconciliation, Prime Minister John Howard's sudden transformation will turn a lot of voters off. Many will be cynical of his motives and for good reason. If he were serious about genuine reconciliation he would say 'sorry' to the Stolen Generation. But he's determined not to do so. Will the next move in the Howard makeover be on same-sex rights? The rights of refugees? Ratifying Kyoto, or a post-Kyoto agreement as Turnbull has been hinting at? I think Mr Howard wants to change the mood of the nation because the mood of the nation is to change him
