Most of you probably won't have heard of Lloyd Thaxton. I only have vague memories of him through my older sister. She was more in the age range (5 years older than me) to have watched him back in the 60's. Lloyd had a syndicated "american bandstand" type show for a long time. He was quite a talented ,funny guy and a pioneer in the genre. He had all the big stars of the day on his show. You can read more about him if you'd like and see a video tribute here...

About 3 years ago I was thinking about whatever happened to him and looked him up on the internet. To my surprise he had just started a blog that I joined. His blog entries were very entertaining, funny, nostalgic and full of photos and clips from his TV shows.

Suddenly in July of this year the posts stopped coming. All us "bloggers" have been waiting patiently for some news and today we got it. Lloyd died Sunday of cancer.  So although he was not a huge mega star, he still had an impact on alot of people and after getting to know him through his blogs I can say that he was a kind, decent, hard working man that loved music, the entertainment business AND his fans.

I guess I'm that older sister! I loved Lloyd Thaxton. He was great. His show was different, but still kept the music spinning and the dancers dancing. Gary, Becky and I played "Lloyd Thaxton" all the time. Gary was alway Lloyd and Becky and I were the girl groups!! I still have a tape of us playing "Lloyd Thaxton". Marty and Dean sometimes joined us, although they were just a couple of annoyances. Sorry Marty and Dean!!!!! Great memories. I enjoyed his blogs too....it was fun to look back on such good memories. Goodbye Lloyd Thaxton (SO WHAT!)

Hey Marty...thanks for the blog update. I watched anything and everything "rock 'n roll" on TV when I was a kid, but couldn't recall who Lloyd Thaxton was until I viewed the video on the link you posted - definitely remember him! I distinctly remember the Jose clip with the face painted on his thumb. He was a funny guy.

Sorry to hear of his passing...he obviously kept up with the times if he had his own blog! Glad you got the opportunity to get to know him some.

Thanks for the post...and the memories...

Jim
