There’s no question that Rock ‘N’ Roll Monkey And The Robots are the winners of the coveted ‘best band name of the issue’ award, but what about the music? Oh, the music! Psychedelic, lo-fi garage-punk at its finest—reminiscent of The Flamin’ Groovies, The 13th Floor Elevators, The Chesterfield Kings, The Cramps, The B-52s, Hoodoo Gurus, Action Now, The Plimsouls, The Dukes Of Stratosphere, Mickey & The Milkshakes, and all the other legends of the genre, without ever being derivative of any of them. That’s my simple, zero-sum description of the music. And if you get it, you GET IT. So get ‘Back To Beatsville’ and prepare to fall head-over-heels in love in that dreamy teenage way that you probably haven’t experienced in a long, long time, but dream about every night, whether you know it or not.
