Stacksteads had the opportunity to creep into the top half of the Ribblesdale League Division One, as they travelled to Blackburn , to face Cherry Tree CC in a mid table clash.

After losing the toss, Stacksteads took the field in the blazing afternoon sun. On a rock hard pitch and quick outfield, it was clear the bowling attack would need to be firing on all cylinders to restrict the hosts from making a large total during first use of the genuine "bat first" wicket.

Cherry Tree made comfortable progress to 76 without loss, when the Stacksteads' bowlers finally got the breakthough they had deserved. Whilst the track offered little to the bowlers, a tight line and length, frustrated the middle order, Stephen Hawke was the main aggressor, taking 6 for 60 in a straight 15 over spell. With the rabbits in the headlights, a second spell from opener Hussey (3 for 51) cleared the tail, leaving Cherry Tree with a competitive 175 all out.

At the interval, the message was simple, the track held no demons and most balls beating the field were guaranteed boundaries, occupation of the crease for 45 Overs would get Stacksteads very close to the target.

After losing Smith just 4 balls into their reply, Moss (19) & Hindle (20) continued their solid run of form and looked set to take the game away from Cherry. However both were dismissed within 10 balls leaving Stacksteads precariously at 41 for 3 with 2 new batsmen at the crease.

A 60 run partnership between Flockhart (22) and Hawke moved the score to 114 before Flockhart fell to an excellent catch at gully. Stacksteads' control of the innings soon faltered and wickets fell in quick succession with none of the middle order offering any form of resistance. Hawke (44*) eventually ran out of partners, as Stacksteads lost 8 wickets for 30 runs, finally being dismissed for 147.
