Who Gives Kudos:

Monday, June 29, 2009

Been a busy couple of weeks since the last post on our blogosphere (I call it that purely to piss off Rob). The reason being is that we’ve been working our balls off (perhaps not Sarah) to get all kinds of fun things done.

A couple of weekends ago we hit Inverness not once but TWICE. The first trip was to play the goNorth Festival, which was our first time up North and also the smallest venue any of us had ever seen…there wasn’t a stage and the sound console sat between us and a wall…meaning once set, the sound wasn’t going to be tweaked for the duration! Regardless it was tres superb and left us raring to come back for more…which was convenient.

Then straight home as the next night we were celebrating the 2nd anniversary of our debut live outing by playing the highlight of Edinburgh’s party calendar - The Revel. If you don’t know it, this is the end of year party for the art school and, without a doubt, the best party in town. The whole place gets taken over with different venues and clubs and a big marquee in the garden for live bands! The theme this year was Circus Revel - so needless to say there were A LOT of clowns, bearded ladies, trapeze artists etc goosing about. This was Sarah’s last Revel as a member of the art school so I think that made it extra special. We were on last and from the moment we got on stage to the moment we came off, there was a constant stream of invaders jumping on, grabbing the mics, dancing about like loons and just having a great time up on stage with us! It was definitely one of our favourite shows for a long long time, and a fitting close to the art school’s year.

The next day we nursed hangovers and prepared to head BACK to Inverness…well, Loch Ness to be precise.

We were asked to play at Rockness this year, which was pretty cool - none of us had ever been before but, as soon as we got there, it was clear that this was undoubtedly one of the most spectacular festival settings ever. We played a cool wee acoustic radio session for BBC (including our first ever cover song - Kids by MGMT) and got to hang out with a few old mates. Mikey got to say hi to a hero of his too (Simon Neil), which was creepy. After the session we caught some sweet music (Tommy Reilly, St Deluxe, Soulwax) before playing our own set. A lot of fun & then in the car and back along that unforgiving and winding road once more. Was great to be joined by a good crowd of our mates too…always makes it more fun.

Last weekend saw us return to our favourite city to play - Dublin. We met and befriended a great band in Texas called Dirty Epics and, as they’re good lads (and lass), they invited us over to support them at this awesome venue called The Button Factory. As much as we love playing all over Scotland, we’ve yet to visit a venue quite as hospitable as The Button Factory: we showed up at about 2pm in the hope we could find somewhere to sleep and straightaway they just showed us to a superb dressing room with a choice of sofas with the command to make ourselves at home! We slept for about 4 or 5 hours before meeting the Epics and getting on with a great show. Check out Dirty Epics too, their live show was top class!

Along with friends, family and ‘business’ associates in the crowd, our co-founder and best friend Trev was there too. It was a real pleasure to see him again looking so well and, after a lot of tequila, we eventually all crashed at his pad. The next day saw us back in Temple Bar to play an acoustic session for BalconyTV (balconytv.com). As it sounds, this is a cool wee web TV channel which features bands of all sizes playing on a tiny balcony high up over the centre of Dublin. Always wanted to do this, as a few friends’ bands have, and it was a pleasure to be able to tick it off our list. From here we caught up with more friends & family, saw a few of the sites and generally ‘hung out’, before risking our lives once more in the reckless, feckless and downright terrifying hands of RyanAir.

A few more shows (including a fantastically fun acoustic slot at our friends Matt & Ellie’s flat party!) and it was soon the next weekend, which we had all been waiting for for a while. It was time to record our next single. In a top secret location we all met up with the brilliant and super-cool Alex from Fentek Audio to start proceedings. Don’t want to give too much away just yet (largely as it’s still unmixed), but in short it sounds spot on and, importantly, it sounds just like us…we’re very excited for you guys to hear it soon.

This week we’re playing a couple of shows with the fantastic Muscle Club from Cardiff, starting tomorrow night at Edinburgh’s Cab Vol and then Wednesday night at The Tunnels in Aberdeen. This is our first ever Aberdeen show, so looking forward to exploring some of the granite city. Another interesting FREE show on Thursday night in Edinburgh; Belvedere are hosting a cool vodka cocktail party and have invited us along to play…its free so just visit their website for tickets and get your glad rags on. Finally,, Saturday sees us hitting Perth again for the inaugural Perth Music Festival. VERY excited about this as, I think, we get to share a stage with our buddies We Were Promised Jetpacks (not seen those guys since Texas), as well as Zoey Van Goey and The X-certs. An amazing line up.

We will also have some news quite soon…so tune in, cop out etc.

Peace & fucking,

Come On Gang! x x x
