It's August, festival season in Edinburgh. The streets are packed with tourists, travelling bands, jugglers, people trying their luck in the month where Edinburgh takes centre stage in the world's attention. There's colour, music and craziness waiting round every turn, and of course exceptionally late hours kept by the bars.
And I haven't seen a single bit of it!
I can only wonder how my bandmates are doing and how much fun they're having.. although I know that they're ridiculously busy and probably doing a better job juggling different things than any street performer could. Meanwhile, I'm in Brighton sitting out the recovery weeks following a tonsil operation.
It was nasty, and getting over it took bloody ages, but I'm nearly there and next week i'll be north of the border once again. I was going to put 'before' and 'after' shots of the tonsils in question on this blog.. in the name of holistic reportage - but i don't think I will. You don't want to see that. It does mean that I'll never be blighted by tonsilitis again and that's a real mercy.
We've got a decent amount of travelling before us at the end of August. I love travelling, no matter how long it takes or how uncomfortable it may be (the latter actually might be a lie) and I can't wait. There's London, Reading and Leeds, and a great sweeping zigzag across the country in a van with some friends, so we'll let you know how it all went.
In the meantime I've been singing along to the radio (Aretha Franklin is very good in this respect) and eating honey, which is nature's wonder drug. Got a sore throat? Eat pure honey. It will help you no end.
