Here are some helpful things you will need to know when booking or performing here at the modern.
LOCATION & LOAD IN: We are located at 12219 Dix-Toledo Rd, Southgate, MI 48195 between Northline and Goddard on the east side. There is a big garage on Netherwood that you can pull your vehicle around to load into. Load in will be a half hour before the door set time (unless specified otherwise). Note: We do not have security cameras in our load in room (it is something we will have eventually).We do keep the garage locked when bands are not loading or unloading, but keep in mind that we do not have someone watching your gear at all times. To prevent theft, make sure there is always someone from your band near your equipment.
PAY/BOOKING: On weeknights, we keep the first $250.00, then we split the rest of the money 60/40 with the bands (where we keep 40 and the bands get 60). On weekends, we keep the first $300.00, then we split the money 70/30 with the bands (where we keep 30 and the bands get 70). If working with a promoter or booking agency, it will be up to him/her to disburse the money amongst the bands. Pay will differ when working with guarantees.
HALL RENTALS: We do offer hall rentals for any event.. including shows. If renting the hall during the day, it is $50/hr for the first 3 hours, then $25.00 for every hour after that. The minimum amount for a hall rental during the day is $100.00. If renting the hall on an evening, it is $400 from 8-11pm on weeknights, and $500 from 8-11pm on weekends. Anything more than that is $50 an hour. When renting the hall you must provide your own door person. All hall rentals must be done by 11pm and a 50% deposit is required a month in advance.
RULES/SECURITY: No fighting! If there is any intentional harm done to any patron, you will be eliminated from the show whether you are performing or not. If the situation is undetermined of intentional harm, you will receive 1 warning, then eliminated from the show if problems persist. We do have security on duty for shows that are neccessary. FOR HARDCORE/METAL SHOWS THERE IS AN EXTRA $10 AN HOUR TAKEN FROM THE DOOR MONEY TO PAY FOR SECURITY. There is smoking allowed in the venue but not in the store, and no outside beverages are allowed inside the venue.
PROMOTION: We are a small establishment with a small staff. We do as much promotion as we can, but when booking 7 nights a week, it is not up to us to bring your fans. When playing here, extra promotion is required because we do not post in the metrotimes or sell alcohol. Most of our promoting is through myspace and in our venue. In order to have a show, there must be at LEAST 15 people who have paid to get in. Otherwise we will have to forfeit the night, and shut down the venue.
GUESTLISTS: For every show, each band only gets 1 person in for free. This can be your merch person, photographer, girlfriend, boyfriend etc... but only one person (unless specified otherwise).
Lastly... Make sure you provide a flyer for your show! We do not have someone on hand to always make flyers.
