As most will know, Alcatraz's guitarist John Oxley went on tour with John Parr's band supporting Journey on their UK tour. I (Jen/Betty Blue) was privileged enough to join John on the last two dates of the UK leg (Nottingham and Newcastle) and I have to say that I was blown away!!!
I didn't quite know what to expect from John Parr but he was fab, I enjoyed the songs and he sounded great. Bobby Arechiga knocked seven shades of sound out of the kit! He is amazing and I love this guy! Fasker Johnson, was forever on the move and seemed to be buzzing on stage! (Thanks for looking after me too!) And John Oxley............(I know I might be a little biased but)............He Rocked! Mr Charisma on stage! (As he is at Traz gigs but more so to match the size of the venue!) He sounded and looked great on stage (fantastic rock stance!!). And as to be expected there were flying picks, sometimes caught!
Journey were flipin' amazing! I am gunna be pushed to enjoy a gig as much as I enjoyed theirs. Arnel Pineda is an absolute star!!! Incredible voice and stage presence, he was loving being up there and could not stop smiling! Deen Castronovo took centre stage as it were and sang a couple of songs; I was just in amazement with this killer drummer with arms flying using such an incredible voice at the same time! Madness!! Neal Schon played to perfection throughout the set, including some sublime solos and some excellent mandolin work! - joined by Jonathan Cain on harmonica
I could go on forever about how good this gig was, but I won't!!
After the Nottingham gig I got a little star struck when meeting the Journey guys backstage but they were all so sweet. After the Newcastle gig I got the chance to meet Deen Castronovo and Ross Valary properly, they are both wonderful and were pleasures to talk to.
The whole weekend was mind blowing and I have to say a huge thank you to John Oxley for sorting all this out for me (John, you are a star!) and Thank You to John Parr, Fasker and Bobby (for looking after me) the promoters and that security guard who stood with me and let me take a couple of pics in the pit! Thank you Sam and Elaine for the use of your camera! I know you both enjoyed it as much as I did
