Yep it's done, it's printed, it's in our hands and we are really, really happy with it!
A year of writing, recording, re-writing, re-recording until we said "that's it!"
It's important to know when to put down the paint brush.
"Not Deserted" is our first full length album. As some of you may remember, "I Just Love Girls" was an EP but I can tell you that those 4 songs took us a long way.
This new cd has a larger cross section on it, from dance to pop/rock to something even a bit bluesy/jazzy. We were able to go a little deeper with this one which we hope will make it even more "listenable." (If that is actually a word)
We've been asked alot about the cover already...why are we facing away from each other and who are all of those people on the back?
So, the title track "Not Deserted" was written after we heard Ellen Degeneres speak at the GLAAD awards in LA this year. She mentioned Carl Joseph Hoover, the 11 year old boy who committed suicide as a result of anti-gay bullying. After returning home we researched and found that he was one of four reported middle school children in the States that had also killed themselves with anti-gay bulling to partly blame, in this year alone.
We also read that encouraging a bullied child to ignore the bullying and try to forget about it is one of the worst things one can do. Children feel helpless, suppressed and hopeless unless they learn to at least try and stand up to the offenders. My first thought was how on earth can we expect a child to do this? But then, it makes sense that at least they would feel more in control, even if it failed to produce the desired results. Apparently, 50% of bullying ceases after a victim yells stop!
Many of these children don't even know their sexual identity and others may already be living into it. Either way, we wanted them to know that they are not alone. They may feel like the image on the cover, but when you turn it over, there is a huge gay and straight community there for them. The point is not to give up.
